JOB DESCRIPTION

We're currently seeking a Class A Machinist for a contract opportunity in Worcester, MA. This is a great opportunity to work with one of the world's leading suppliers of a wide range of products, solutions and services in the field of energy technology.

Daily Responsibilities Include:
  • Perform all required functions to operate numerically controlled machine for drilling, boring, reaming, tapping, milling, facing and other operations on a wide range of castings, forgings and parts of various materials such as steel and steel alloys, cast irons, etc.
  • This position involves working with the metric dimensioning system
  • The vast majority of this work consists of precision machine machining of large gear box bores for size, location and alignment to other bores and features to tolerances less than 0.001”
  • Successful candidates must be detail oriented, proactively insuring quality and have the ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision while producing high output.
  • Tooling is prescribed by others, but at times is set by operator, using working knowledge of tooling and tool setting. Operator performs own setups
  • Machine functions are normally computer controlled and are made by others, but information must be input into the machine by the operator
  • Occasionally special fixtures are prescribed by others but mounted and aligned by the operator
  • Operate machine while pro-actively proving out new programs, without the aid of a programmer
  • Check tooling, setups, program coordinates, hole locations, and any other information to insure a quality part
  • Make all corrections as needed by inputting information into program editor
  • Make necessary notations for changes or corrections in control
  • Make suggestions for further improvements in program to shorten run times
  • Analyze tooling, setups, procedures and make recommendations for improvements
  • Operation involves loading, unloading, and pre-positioning of work on the bed; checking of parts for conformity with dimensional specifications by use of fixed gages, calipers, internal and external micrometers, etc.
  • Remain constantly alert to detect improper machine operation or faulty parts; shut down machine and notify proper supervision.
  • Mathematical calculations (trigonometry) required
  • Examples bolt circles, arc centers, working from a zero reference etc.


Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma
  • 2+ years of similar experience


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This is a 6+ month 3 rd shift contract position. Pay rate is $19.48 - $29.19 per hour.
