POSITION SUMMARY
Perform the primary responsibilities of the Safety Manager for the Irvine Company Apartment Communities (ICAC). The Safety Manager will maintain a safe and healthful environment by identifying and anticipating incidents and hazards and working to control potential hazards. Supervise and implement the Safety & Health procedures, educate staff and enforce policy and procedures. Interface with Corporate Risk Management in managing the Workers Compensation claim process.

Qualifications:
Perform the primary responsibilities of the Safety Manager for the Irvine Company Apartment Communities (ICAC). The Safety Manager will maintain a safe and healthful environment by identifying and anticipating incidents and hazards and working to control potential hazards. Supervise and implement the Safety & Health procedures, educate staff and enforce policy and procedures. Interface with Corporate Risk Management in managing the Workers Compensation claim process.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plans, communicates, and implements the company’s safety programs and policies to help reduce injuries and ensure compliance with Cal/OSHA and other applicable standards.
- Collaborates with Risk Management and Corporate Safety on matters related to workers compensation and safety.
- Conducts on-property training of managers and associates in safe work practices.
- Provides training reports from the Learning Resource Center (LRC) to Regional Managers.
- Assists managers at all levels on how to effectively use the LRC to manage completion of employee safety training.
- Organizes and conducts quarterly safety committee meetings with Regional Managers.
- Assist with injury investigations and conducts follow-up with managers to insure measures taken to prevent recurrences are effectively implemented.
- Conducts on-site safety audits to ensure established safety programs and policies are effectively implemented.
- Develops and facilitates the implementation of written emergency procedures at apartment communities.
- Conducts detailed loss analysis and identifies/implements measures to mitigate identified trends.
- Acquires and maintains an effective degree of safety knowledge through the use of outside resources such as workshops, training, and independent research.
- Performs the functions of IIPP Administrator for ICAC.
- Provides safety status reports to ICAC Management.
- Travel to San Jose and San Diego quarterly.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Good interpersonal and communication skills (oral & written).
- Ability to recognize on-site risk factors and take appropriate action with firmness and tact.
- Must be able to complete the company’s safety training programs and communicate their basic required elements to on-site associates.
- Ability to effectively use word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
- Understand and follow protocol for the proper lines of communication.
- Clear understanding of Company mission and values.
- Ability to work independently and as part of team.
- Attendance is an essential function of the job

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field is required.
- 5+ years of experience within the multi-family and/or safety industry
- A Certification in Safety and Health is encouraged
- 5+ years experience in a Safety and Health environment preferred
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
- CPR and First Aid certifications are required.
