The Business Process Improvement function under the Quality organization is responsible for ensuring that critical processes are maintained, and monitored based on their relative impact and risk to client and member satisfaction; performance; compliance to regulations and contractual obligations.


 


The Sr. Director will drive the organization's internal and external initiatives of business process improvement across OptumRx, and quality control / process improvement in the home delivery fulfillment centers. This entails leading an organization of quality master black belts, black belts, project managers, and Quality process engineers. This position is critical to the business and requires strong communication, partnering and relationship building, cross-functionally within the business sector and across the divisions of OptumRx.


 


 


This position reports directly to the Senior Vice President of Quality


 


 


Primary Responsibilities:



  • Directs a team that is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, managing and continuously improving processes within OptumRx through the Quality management organization

  • Leads a six sigma team and Quality process engineers that will identify, initiate, and lead projects across OptumRx and in the fulfillment centers to reduce waste and improve process safety, quality, service, and productivity

  • Strong relationships and alignment with Home Delivery Operations (fulfillment centers), Supply Chain, Supplier Quality, Complaint Evaluation Teams, Post-Market Product Assurance, and New Product Development organizations to create an effective quality team and ascertain and prioritize process improvement projects

  • Establish metrics for performance that will support and drive critical behaviors and decision making for quality. Align teams cross functionally to ensure agreement of common quality goals and metrics

  • Manage and operate effectively in a highly-matrixed organization while fully supporting cross-functional initiatives in the area of quality

  • Maintain and assess competitive quality assessments/trends
    Effectively recruit, retain, grow, and manage organizational talent

  • Provides guidance, direction and decision making as needed with any development, fulfillment or supplier quality issues

  • Plans schedules, and chairs Business Process Improvement meetings

  • Verifies that the appropriate improvement methodologies and tools are being properly applied to all initiatives to ensure project completeness and control

  • Directs the deployment of resources

  • Assures statistical methods of data collection and analysis are used in the evaluation of proposed process changes.  Requires all appropriate documentation

  • Prepares, monitors, and reports on project pipelines, project closure, implementations, controls, and monitoring

  • Plans schedules, and chairs the Business Process Improvement meetings

  • Verifies that the appropriate improvement methodologies and tools are being properly applied to all initiatives to ensure project completeness and close out with the sponsors

  • Directs the deployment of resources

  • Establishes communication channels for sharing improvement initiatives across the operation

  • Works with cross-functional teams to identify and share trends related to process control or quality weakness and addresses the trends through process or technology improvements

  • Communicates the results of business process improvement activities to relevant internal leadership as appropriate

  • Drives standardization of quality processes

  • Other special projects or duties as necessary

Requirements

Required Qualifications: 



  • MBA or MS; ASQC certification

  • Six Sigma Master Black Belt and Lean Sigma certification and experience

  • 15+ years relevant experience in business process improvement and or process engineering leadership within a manufacturing, healthcare, and or industrial setting

  • 12+ years with management experience

  • Strong knowledge of cGMP (Good Manufacturing Practices)

  • 7+ years of internal and external client facing experience

  • Experience working with Six Sigma discipline and primary tools of Statistical Process Control (Minitab)

  • Intermediate to advanced skills with Visio, Excel, Minitab, and PowerPoint

  • Hands on personality with mechanical aptitude

  • Tracks record of integrity and delivering strong and rapid business results

  • Demonstrated strength in engineering/technical skills

  • Self starter/self directed that leads with high energy and passion

  • Results oriented with strong process and execution skills

  • Solid written and communication skills, organization and interpersonal skills
