On behalf of RTI International, Headway Workforce Solutions is currently seeking a survey research Field Supervisor to supervise a school-based research study based in New York City. Qualified Field Supervisor candidates must reside in or around the NYC area and should be comfortable working from home and supervising a remote team.

Position Description
All project data will be collected by Classroom Observers who will report to the Field Supervisor. The Field Supervisor (FS) position is intended to provide quality control, production management, and support and oversight for Observers working in the field. The FS will help recruit, train, coach and supervise the observers, perform administrative duties related to the project, monitor and manage observer productivity, costs and work quality.

Candidates must have at least 2 years of field supervisory experience! We prefer candidates who have experience supervising school-based studies.

Job Duties
  • Learn and follow project protocols for data collection and field management.
  • Supervise between 16 Observers within your assigned region.
  • Be available to mentor and/or observe Observers as needed.
  • Schedule and conduct weekly conference calls with Observers while they perform their main job duties.
  • Closely monitor Observers performance during data collection to ensure field work meets all study specifications including cost and quality standards.
  • Monitor your area's overall progress as it relates to the total work your staff has to complete and the schedule for finalizing all work by reviewing and evaluating all weekly status reports.
  • Review all weekly reports (production, cost, and data quality) regularly in order to assess desired outcomes for your area.
  • Communicate and set weekly goals for each Observer on your team, including documenting any quality issues to be addressed.
  • Use project furnished computers to obtain and submit various reports as required and communicate by e-mail
  • Develop and refine computer skills as necessary to meet project expectations.
  • Meet weekly reporting requirements for administrative forms and reports, including but not limited to: Time and Expense Reports, Field Status Reports, and review/approval of Production, Time and Expense Reports.


Position requirements
  • Degree in Early Childhood, Psychology or related field.
  • Successful management experience. Ideal experience includes managing a team of field data collection staff.
  • Ability to motivate and monitor a remote team of Observers.
  • Ability to serve as liaison between project staff, Observers, and Headway staff, as needed.
  • Effective interpersonal and verbal communications skills.
  • Willingness to adhere to all Headway and RTI project requirements.
  • Ability to provide feedback to Observers on their performance, noting areas of strength and areas worthy of improvement.
  • Willingness and ability to communicate with Observers as necessary to assure they are properly informed of existing and revised procedures.
  • Effectively use a computer and the internet to communicate via phone and email.
  • Ability to accurately complete electronic project documents and submit project forms and materials according to project requirements via online access.
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to complete all required activities in a professional manner, while maintaining the integrity of all information acquired.


Scope of Position
  • This is a position lasting 16 weeks with approximately 40 hours/week for the duration of the project.
  • FSs work as employees of Headway Workforce Solutions, and are compensated a salary depending on experience and assignment responsibilities. FSs must be willing to travel as needed for the project, which may include overnight travel.
  • Additional work may be available following the 16 week period, but is not guaranteed.
