Position Overview

The Service Technician Team Leader is responsible for the overall production, quality control, and general performance of the members of his/her team.

Who Would I Interact With?
This position interacts daily with Customers, Service Managers, Service Advisors, Service Technicians, Parts Associates, Cashiers, Sales Associates and Managers, just to name a few.

What are the day-to-day responsibilities?

  • Dispatch work to all team members in a fair and equitable manner
  • Manage the team to achieve high levels of overall team production
  • Maintain a high standard of quality workmanship for the labor performed by every team member
  • Work with each team member to ensure their performance helps the team maintain their objectives
  • Participate in employment decisions such as hiring, discipline and terminations
  • Determine the training needs of the team and inform management of those needs
  • Communicate to the appropriate service consultant information regarding any job that will not meet the consultants promised time
  • Assure that flat rate time assignments are true and accurate
  • Review the up flagging of all repair orders at the end of each day
  • Work with the service manager to develop monthly production forecast
  • Monitor technician certification status within the team as required
  • Inform management of any situation or event that would interfere with established objectives, standards or company policy
  • Perform work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards
  • Diagnose cause of any malfunction, communicate with the parts department to obtain the necessary parts and perform repairs
  • Road test vehicles when required
  • Attend factory sponsored training classes
  • Keep abreast of factory bulletins
  • Ensure shop is kept neat and clean and be able to account for all dealership owned tools at all times
  • Wear approved safety equipment at all times when in designated safety areas
  • Understand and follow federal, state and local regulations, such as those governing the disposal of hazardous waste
  • Follow company safety procedures to avoid exposure to fumes, dirt, dust and harsh chemicals

What are the requirements for this job?

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Three years of experience as a service technician
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information
  • General mechanical skills
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Ability to drive manual transmission vehicles
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills, ASE certification (preferred)
  • Ability to operate an automobile
  • Must have technical aptitude displayed by ASE certification or successful completion of pre-employment test.
