The VP of Strategic Accounts manages a single and/or very small number of complex and highly visible Strategic Accounts (commercial employer groups with 3000+ lives) with our health management solutions including Disease Management, Care Management, Wellness, and Behavioral Health services. The VPSA is responsible for developing and maintaining the strategic relationship, generally in partnership with senior level executives within their client groups, for designated account(s) and is directly responsible for growth and increased profitability within their book of business.  The VPSA leads strategic initiatives, which deliver "value added" services through the execution of client specific business plans, including leadership of internal cross-functional teams.


 


Primary Responsibilities:





  • Meet and build relationships with senior executives of designated account(s)



  • Understand clients' strategy and key business issues and value proposition created by OptumHealth's products 



  • Monitor customer satisfaction; key deliverables and OptumHealth strategy for Employer market and designated account



  • Include regular interaction with senior decision-makers, senior staff and cross-functional staff in support of the client, and field sales/service staff through a management relationship



  • Strategic visioning, negotiating and influencing for the achievement of strategic account goals, especially revenue growth



  • Coordinate and influence superior customer service delivery by developing and maintaining strong intercompany relationships



  • Establish strong working relationships with distribution channel partners and account managers



  • Develop and monitor client financial performance including renewal planning, negotiation and profitability levels



  • Secure new business through marketing and effective product and service expansion



  • Establish and maintain "strong and appropriate" level relationships with customers and consultants; ensure UHG senior management has customer-specific "board level" contacts



  • Demonstrate marketing and technical expertise through: Client, broker and consultant meetings. Assessment of approach, resources, and contacts needed to complete RFP's Preparation for and participation in new business site visits



  • Provide feedback to management on market trends as represented by our clients



  • Maintain a high level of healthcare industry knowledge as well as customer's industry

Requirements

Required Qualifications:





  • Undergraduate degree



  • Proven track record of over 7+ years of progressively increasing responsibility for client relationship management, consultation and/or sales



  • 5+ years of healthcare industry experience



  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills (internal / external)



  • Problem solver - can move quickly within UHG to solve customer issues



  • Experience working successfully in a team capacity



  • Experience dealing with complex client negotiations



  • Leadership skills



  • Demonstrated creativity



  • Strategic visionary and planner



  • Strong analytics and real time judgment



  • Experience maintaining professionalism during highly stressful situations



  • High energy, positive attitude and team orientation in all interactions



  • Experience communicating complex information successfully both verbally and in written format



  • Strong working knowledge of claims, marketing and managed care systems, including HMOs, gatekeeper plans, PPO's, and managed indemnity plans, and other industry payers



  • Strong working knowledge of managed care delivery system



  • Ability to travel up to 75% of the time

  • An advanced degree (e.g., MBA, MHA, MSN)
