GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

Will perform kitchen tasks on a continuous basis. These tasks will include washing dishes, putting away clean dishes, utensils, pots and pans, etc., assisting in preparing meals, setting the dining room for meal services, preparing beverages, cleaning the dining room etc. Washing and drying table linens according to manufacturer’s guidelines. Some judgment is involved in the operation of kitchen appliances, utensils, and the dish machine. Must be able to cooperate and work well with other dietary employees. Will perform other related duties as assigned.

SCOPE OF JOB TASKS:

  • Cleans dishes, glassware, silverware, pots and pans, etc. by hand and using the dish machine.
  • Receive dishes, silverware, and glasses from the dining room and residents.
  • Scrape food from dishes, utensils, glasses and pans prior to washing them.
  • Monitors wash and rinse temperatures to ensure they are proper.
  • Cleans dining room tables, vacuums dining room.
  • Assists in setting up for meals.
  • Serving meals as assigned.
  • Sets up beverages, desserts, salads as assigned.
  • Removes garbage from the dining room, dish room and kitchen.
  • Cleans according to the kitchen cleaning schedule.
  • Sweeps and mops the kitchen floor.
  • Washes and dries dining room linens according to manufacturer’s specifications.
  • If equipment needs repair notifies Dietary Supervisor.
  • Discarding of broken and chipped dishes or glassware in a safe manner.
  • Assists in putting away supplies and groceries on delivery days.
  • Participates in fires drills and emergency evacuations.
  • Attends in-services and staff meetings as required.

EDUCATION:

Will receive special in service training. Have ability to read, speak, write, and follow oral and written directions as necessary.  Ability to work cooperatively with others as needed.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Previous food service experience desirable but not necessary. Will receive on the job training.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be in good physical health and free from communicable diseases. Stands and walks short distance most of the working day. Must stop and reach heights to five (5) feet or above, lift up to fifty (50) pounds of trash, supplies, or equipment. Pushes carts. Must be clean and neat in appearance. Must be able to work rapidly, and able to communicate with others.

Cook, Dietary Supervisor, Executive Director

WOKRING CONDITIONS: 

Works in clean, well-lighted kitchen. Atmosphere is warm and humid from cooking foods. May be subject to burns from steam and hot water, cuts from knives and broken glassware, and falls on wet slippery floors. May be subject to electrical or mechanical hazards.

DRESS ATTIRE:

The community dress code includes community polo and khaki or black pants and rubber sole shoes. Proper head cover including a clean baseball cap or hairnet required. Apron provided by the community.
