The primary role of the Accounts Payable Supervisor is to oversee all aspects of Accounts Payable including processing of transactions, planning and coordinating work assignments, monitoring and reviewing procedural controls and supervising and training assigned staff.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Oversees processing of all accounts payable, vendor and employee related transactions.
Plans and coordinates the work assignments as well as verifies the work of the AP team members. Monitors processing volumes ensuring that during peak periods work in progress is maintained at acceptable levels.
Ensures that supplier invoices are properly matched with receipt transactions and verifies that quantities received and prices are in agreement with respective purchase orders, where applicable.
Ensures that all payments are made to suppliers as required in order to maintain good supplier relations whilst balancing against cash-flow requirements and targets set for the Finance and Accounts Payable functions. Maintains adequate management controls over check-runs and bank transfers using EFT electronic payment and remote check printing.
Ensures that the Treasury department is made aware of all outgoing payments from the AP department on the day that they are released by providing the total by payment type along with value date of said payment.
Ensures that advantage is taken of supplier discounts where beneficial. Works together with the Procurement function in order to meet company objectives in supplier cost levels, payment terms, numbers of suppliers, etc.
Ensures that use tax on purchases is properly accounted for and that exemptions are sought where applicable. Assists in providing information for compliance of use tax returns and for other statutory tax reports related to the supplier.
Monitors and reviews procedural controls relating to Accounts Payable, ensuring that all expenditure and payment authorizations are obtained in accordance with the expenditure controls and approval matrix. Assists the Financial Shared Services Accounts Payable Manager in reviewing the performance of AP team members on a regular basis.
Conducts new employee orientations in work practices, policies/procedures, and safety.
Documents all training sessions and submits reports to Human Resources as required, identifying any training requirements or other actions as necessary.
Assists the Financial Shared Services Accounts Payable Manager in continuous improvement of defined controls and procedures in order to meet company objectives. Participates constructively in assigned quality teams and training programs.
Through observations of work area, is alert to and avoids unsafe behavior and conditions or other hazards. Reports any observed hazards to manager. Participates in corrective measures when appropriate or authorized to do so.
Serves as an escalation point for the resolution of issues raised by both internal and external customers.
Ensures Sarbanes Oxley compliance and other audit requirements are fully carried out within all assigned areas in Accounts Payable.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Financial Shared Services Accounts Payable Manager.
Supports special projects and mission critical initiatives.
Reviews and approves metric reporting and analysis. Escalates issues as required.
Prepares specialized reporting & analysis as required.
Carries out the month end process ensuring that the AP sub ledger is closed in accordance with the month end close time table from Corporate GL. Reporting any issues to the Financial Shared Services Accounts Payable Manager and resolving those issues that could impact the timely closing of the AP sub ledger.
Works with general and operations finance functions, providing all necessary information/entries to the general ledger to ensure the integrity and completeness of data in multiple environments.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises assigned personnel including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation and training. Makes recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, terminations and similar actions. Resolves personnel problems within position responsibilities

Education and Experience:
Bachelors Degree and three or more years experience in accounts payable or accounting role.
One year experience in a lead/supervisory role.
