About this job

Choir Director position available in beautiful mountain town:

Basalt Middle School and Basalt High School are seeking a full-time choir and guitar teacher starting in the 2015-2016 school year. Located just down-valley from Aspen, Basalt is a beautiful mountain community with numerous outdoor and cultural opportunities.

Seventy-five percent of this position takes place at Basalt High School and involves leading the Concert and Chamber Choirs and teaching beginning and intermediate/advanced guitar classes. Curriculum and professional development is available for the guitar classes through the Aspen Music Festival and School, so expert guitar skills or experience teaching guitar is not required.

The other 25 percent of this position takes place at Basalt Middle School and includes teaching the 7th and 8th grade choirs there. All classes meet every other day. Because this position spans grades 7-12, it offers the unique opportunity to recruit for and build a top flight program starting in seventh grade. It also offers a director the chance to work with a very loyal and enthusiastic choir parent base, as well as a highly supportive school administration team.

Additional responsibilities include producing a high school spring musical and directing joint evening concerts for all choir and guitar classes. Ideal candidates will exhibit high energy and enthusiasm on the job and be able to instill a love for music and the arts to BMS and BHS students. If you are interested in joining our team, please submit an application. Feel free to call Jeremy Voss, Basalt Middle School principal, at 970-384-5901 or David Schmid, Basalt High School principal, at 970-384-5951 with any questions about the opening.
