We work hard to ensure that every area of our resort looks just right, and we are looking for Central Shops Scenic Painters to make sure our guests feel like they've just set foot inside the pages of a comic book or onto the set of their favorite movie. Problem solving, superior painting skills, attention to detail, and possessing the ability to use good judgment under pressure are just some of the key attributes we are looking for in a Central Shops Scenic Painter.


Central Shops Scenic Painters at Universal Orlando are responsible for:

  • Painting various props (ex. - wood graining, aging, textures) to match existing surfaces.
  • Performing layout, sculpting, theming and painting of various props from Artist direction and/or conceptual drawings.
  • Performing air brush and conventional spraying, fades and blending.
  • Performing cosmetic fiberglass repairs and gel coats utilizing various materials.
  • Documentation of paints and procedures used in modifications and repairs.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established Universal Orlando policy, procedures, training and Team Member involvement activities.



To perform the role of a Central Shops Scenic Painter successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Consistent attendance and punctuality is a job requirement.
  • High school degree or GED is required. 
  • Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from two year college or technical schoolis preferred.
  • Required – 3-5 years’ experience in theme painting and air brush painting.
  • Color matching and blending of new to existing finishes is necessary.
  • Preferred – 5-7 years proven experience in a similar work environment dealing with critical paint issues.
  • Knowledge of all phases of paint, fiberglass and sculpting are needed to be successful in this job classification.
  • Free Style painting is a plus.
  • Will require a valid Florida state driver’s license.


The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of the Central Shops Scenic Painter job.



While performing the duties of this job, the individual is required to:

  • Regularly (2/3 of the time or more) hear audible alarms, voice commands with background noise; use hands and fingers to grip, pinch, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; climb stairs/ladders; work at heights for prolonged periods of time including heights with or without railings or over open pits greater than 4 feet; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; repeat motions more than twice per minute; use close vision with or without corrective lens. (clear vision at 20 inches or less); use color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); maintain alertness and attentiveness up to 4 hours while working varying hours; maintain concentration/focus (e.g., ability to interpret the work environment and make decisions on predetermined operating policies and procedure).
  • Frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time) reach, pull, push with hands and arms above/below head; work in an environment subject to vibrations.
  • Occasionally (1/3 of the time or less) stand for prolonged periods; use distance vision with or without corrective lens. (clear vision at 20 feet or more); use peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point); use depth perception (vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus while in changing light conditions e.g., sunshine to indoor or dark conditions); work in varied light conditions including low or diminished lighting; work in an environment with flashing lights including strobe lamps; work in small or tight spaces.


The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those an individual encounters while performing the essential functions of the Central Shops Scenic Painter job.



While performing the duties of this job, the individual is required to:

  • Regularly (2/3 of the time or more) work with fumes or airborne particles requiring the use of a respirator; work with toxic or caustic chemicals, hazardous chemicals, fluorescent lamps or batteries; work with aerosols (spray paints, brake cleaner).
  • Frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time) use a motorized company vehicle or a leased or personal vehicle for company business.
  • Occasionally (1/3 of the time or less) work in wet, humid conditions (non-weather); work in outdoor weather conditions to include direct sunlight, heat or cold; work in extreme cold (non-weather); work in extreme heat (non-weather); use a forklift (sit down); erect or work on scaffolding; use a highreach (aerial lift); work with compressed gas cylinders or tanks; work with water attractions or yachts; perform maintenance or servicing of powerized (energized) equipment (pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical)  LOTO; be exposed to loud noise levels (noise when raised conversation is needed).
