Primary Responsibilities:
  • The
    Refund Clerk performs routine clerical duties in the processing of
    credits/refunds on patient accounts.
  • Audits accounts to determine what
    created credit balance and determine whether credit should be refunded. 
  • Makes determination for refunding based on (a) no other open accounts
    for patient (b) contractual obligations.
  • Adjusts accounts as necessary.
  • Prepares check request for refund checks to the appropriate insurance
    companies and/or patients.
  • Answers phones or letters from patients
    regarding overpayments.
  • Verify by phone the primary payor and refund
    accordingly.
  • Research accounts as necessary.
  • Performs related duties as
    assigned.
  • Moderate work experience within own function.
  • Some work is completed without established procedures.
  • Basic tasks are completed without review by others.
  • Supervision/guidance is required for higher level tasks.

Requirements

Requirements:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Working Hours 7:30am - 5:00pm M - F
  • 1+ year of experience in a hospital business office setting
  • Basic proficiency with Windows PC applications (Word, Excel, Outlook), which includes the ability to learn new and complex computer system applications
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Extended periods of sitting at a computer and use of hands/fingers across keyboard or mouse
  • Office environment
