Billing & Collections Coordinator



POSITION SUMMARY:

This employee is responsible for processing all insurance claims, electronic or paper, primary or secondary as well as Self pay statements. All charges will be entered daily by referencing the findings from the coding company. The claims are to submitted either electronic or by paper on a daily basis, primary and secondary. Collection follow-up on unpaid insurance claims, secondary insurance filings, Self-Pay patient accounts and outsourcing delinquent account to an outside collection agency. General duties include verification of benefits, monthly statement to patients, secondary insurance filings, working with the transcription service, and completion of the deposit slip. All medical records will be checked for chart deficiencies and stored in the medical record room. Understand managed care contracts and reimbursement process. Other duties assigned. Hours TBD.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School graduate or equivalent.

  • Medical terminology and coding courses.

  • One to three years’ experience in the healthcare industry with third party reimbursement, coding and collections and public contact.

  • Computer experience required for billing, word-processing and spreadsheet entry.

    REQUIRED LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION:

    None.

    Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification encouraged.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Additional languages preferred.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.



  • Must be able to communicate effectively over the phone, in writing and in person.

  • Participates in opportunities of continuing education.

  • Demonstrates the ability to utilize recognized channels of communication.

  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships with patients, co workers, and other health team members.
