This position is part of the senior leadership team overseeing Optum's Payment Integrity businesses (OPI) and is a direct report of the leader of the business.


 


Primary Responsibilities:




  • Responsible for significant contributions to the development and setting of the strategic direction for the COB Business


  • Lead the implementation of the strategic plan to meet and exceed financial commitments to their clients


  • Establish business cadence (weekly, monthly, quarterly business reviews) within areas of accountability to ensure results are met and exceeded or evolve existing business cadence to drive higher levels of performance


  • Accountable for financial and non-financial results (budgets and actual) project management and implementation, staff management


  • Partner with matrixed organizations (e.g. analytics, technology, finance, and human capital, sales) to ensure planned results are delivered


  • Oversee both on and offshore teams


  • Lead talent management efforts and provide coaching and leadership development


  • Develop an excellent working relationship with clients, both at the executive and daily operational levels. Drive plans to exceed client expectations and delight our clients


  • Responsible for setting critical goals and upholding a high standard of operational performance throughout the teams in assigned organization


  • Establish mechanism to drive for continuous improvement within the business; past experience driving process improvement initiatives; small scale and large scale is highly desired


  • Develop an internal and external communication strategy to proactively share with clients the value being driven for them and simultaneously engage the employee base within the business


  • Identify and execute on new opportunities for increases in efficiencies and performance


  • Forge strong partnerships with key business associates throughout the organization


  • Serve as a catalyst for change - challenge the status quo and bring your high level of intellectual curiosity to bear to improve your businesses


  • Ability and willingness to roll up sleeves and get hands dirty to drive the businesses and demonstrate to others how to drive the businesses


  • Apply analytical/quantitative approach to problem solving - knows how to obtain and use data, and comfortable with statistical concepts


  • Break down organizational barriers across UHG segments, build alliances, and gain consensus to ensure results are obtained


  • Ensure relevant training programs are established to educate internal staff and third party vendors to produce desired outcomes

Requirements

Required Qualifications:




  • Bachelor's degree


  • 5-7 years operational or large scaled project leadership experience desired; 2+ years at a senior management level


  • Prior experience standing up metrics across an organization by rolling up sleeves and driving to the critical few is mandatory


  • Previous experience with Payment Integrity or Claim processing functions highly desired


  • Experience in healthcare desired but also interested in candidates from manufacturing, property & casualty, life and annuities businesses


  • Proven ability to produce superior results in a financial performance oriented environment


  • Proven ability to hire and develop a leadership team


  • Proven ability to operate in a highly dynamic environment; seeking a candidate who has run large operations in a steady state environment, in turnaround situations and who has scaled a start-up operation 


  • Ability to understand and influence the necessary and appropriate actions to ensure maximization of financial results and objectives; a bias for action is critical


  • Strong leadership and strategic planning skills within a matrix environment


  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills


  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work with all levels of management across all functional areas, as well as, business partners in other UHG entities

Preferred Qualifications:




  • MBA preferred


  • Strong financial analysis and risk management skills preferred


  • Previous large scale project oversight preferred (e.g. conceptualized project, sold project, monitored project to successful implementation)
