Principal Accountabilities

Sydney is an upscale retail shop with exclusive product and exceptional personalized service that make it a desired destination for Kalamazoo area residents. This role will be responsible for developing and executing retail promotional events, selling, inventory controls, achieving gross margin expectations, team selection, team and store development and accountability.

  • Increases team’s effectiveness by recruiting, selecting, training, coaching, and counseling staff in a talent based organization.
  • Sustaining a climate for achievement and information sharing; providing professional growth opportunities for your team through education and development.
  • Accomplishes goals and objectives by allocating resources to maximize profits; reviewing progress against plans weekly with key leaders; leading required mid-course corrections.
  • Develops cross functional collaboration by establishing and monitoring standards for procurement, inventory, sales, service delivery, marketing, and operations policies and processes
  • Establishes and sustains key, cross functional, customer focused processes by continuously reviewing the viability of processes developed and employed by organization members to achieve quality standards; monitoring customer feedback; insisting on continuous improvement practices in all functions
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies
  • Establishes and sustains community and industry relationships by networking with key community and industry stakeholders; joining, attending and participating in community and industry organizations that promote the growth of the community and industry
  • Assist Buyer Consultant in purchasing decisions; with review industry materials and assortment to determine trends/focus for market appointments; assist at market where applicable
  • Compile and maintain market pictures and notes to create “look book” for Sydney; market information into “order form” to include extensions and classification codes; handle all weekly basic “fill-in” orders; work alongside retail accountant to oversee special orders and RA requests for vendors
  • Provide an extraordinary guest experience; greet all guests and make them feel welcome and comfortable; anticipate guest’s wants, needs and desires; act as a “personal shopper” for our guests, discovering their tastes and preferences; provide personalized guest service, asking questions and engaging in conversation in order to get to know guests and assist them in the perfect purchase; special-order items for guests that may not be available in the store; recognize our loyal guests, or “regulars”, with cards and gifts for birthdays, holidays and other special occasions
  • Ensure the store and your team are set up for success every day; create merchandise displays that are up-to-date and attractive to guests; receive and ticket all incoming merchandise; ensure new merchandise is wrinkle-free and ready for display
  • Learn and utilize the retail software system, including inventory tracking; handle cash, credit card, personal check and gift card transactions in an honest and accurate manner
  • Coordinate special events and promotions including off-site fashion events when necessary
  • Effectively communicate with fellow associates, vendors, other departments, and guests
  • Ensure all opening/closing duties are completed daily
