Position Summary: Oversees and assists in organizing all nursing services on unit in conjunction with Assistant Charge Nurses.

Routine Functions of the Position:

  • Effectively supervises Assistant Charge Nurses and C.N.A.’s delegates responsibilities to them as deemed necessary and monitors the accuracy and completeness of their work.
  • Works in conjunction with Staff Development Coordinator, the ADON and members of staff to ensure that all new co-workers receive a thorough and complete orientation. Also completes evaluations of staff in a timely manner.
  • Makes rounds and visits each resident at the start and end of shift and as needed.
  • Evaluates all emergency situations and determines appropriate action in conjunction with the ADON, physician and responsible party.
  • Notifies physician and responsible party when there is a noted change in a resident’s physical and/or metal status, in a timely manner.
  • Accompanies physicians when they make rounds and ensures that physicians complete all necessary documentation.
  • Maintains accurate and thorough medical records and monitors the accuracy and thoroughness of staff member’s documentation.
  • Accurately completes appropriate sections of MDS in a timely manner and inputs appropriate sections of MDS and the Care Plans into the computer in a timely manner.
  • Initiates resident’s Plan of Care in accord with problems identified from MDS and assessment of the resident’s condition in accord with the physician’s orders and updates the Plan of Care as necessary and inputs into the computer in a timely manner.
  • Initiates disciplinary action for members of staff in accord with policies and procedures. Reports actions to the ADON.
  • Renders hands-on nursing care as necessary, including, but not limited to, bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring, administration of medications, and treatments as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Able to manage, supervise, lead, direct, plan, coordinate, staff, develop and make decisions independently. Must utilize approved process of corporate office accordingly. As well, must convey and communicate accurately to corporate office of overall operations and important center matters.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and must possess and maintain a current license as a RN issued by the Commonwealth of PA.
  • Must have prior nursing experience in a long-term skilled nursing facility or in an acute care facility.
  • Must be able to manage and supervise a nursing unit and to make independent decisions.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 100 pounds, as necessary for the lifting, with assistance, of residents from their beds to a chair and from a chair to their beds, and as otherwise required in assisting residents as part of their nursing care plans.
