About Primanti Brothers:
The first Primanti restaurant wasn't really a restaurant at all. It was a small, wooden lunch cart run by Joe Primanti with his nephew John in Pittsburgh's Strip District. In 1933, joined by Dick and Stanley Primanti, the brothers purchased the restaurant that we all know today as the original Primanti Bros. Restaurant. Selling sandwiches to hungry truckers, railroaders, and dock workers who were coming and going at all times of the night, they came up with idea of stuffing all of the best ingredients into a sandwich so that these blue collar workers could carry everything in one hand. Presumably folks had bigger hands in those days. More than 80 years later, Primanti's Bros. sandwich is considered Pittsburgh's most iconic dish and is often recognized as America's Best Sandwich.
