Pharmacy Intern

This position will play a key part in continuing our success!

Centennial Medical Center is currently looking for a Pharmacy Intern.

Responsibilities:

Assists with researching and documenting potential adverse drug reactions in Meditech.

Assists the Pharmacists and Education Coordinator in researching drug information questions.

Attends student and Clinical Pharmacist journal clubs and presentations as scheduling allows.

Attends at least one Pharmacy and Therapeutics meeting.

Writes at least one educational article for inclusion in the pharmacy staff education newsletter.

Participates in IV to PO, renal dosing, and kinetics discussions with the Education Coordinator as appropriate for their year in school.

Responsible for assisting in the procurement, preparation, delivery, return, and restocking of medications to include but not limited to:

Pulling and delivering oral medications, preparing IV medications, filling automated medication cabinets, filling code cart trays and pharmacy kits, restocking all returned medications prior to the end of each shift, assist with putting away pharmacy orders, orders or notifies the Buyer or Technician Supervisor of stock-outs and borrows medications as needed.

Fulfills technician job responsibility list for assigned shift and ensures appropriate daily hand off procedures are followed prior to leaving at the end of shift, ensuring proper documentation of all completed or in progress tasks.

Maintains proper demeanor and communication with all hospital employees.

Ability to knowledgeably use and maintain automated equipment.

Actively participates in staff meetings and process improvement initiatives.

Ensures personal compliance with all USP 797 regulations and documentation.

Performs expiration date audits and nursing station inspections with on-time completion and documentation.

Ensures prepacking and compounding logs are completed and filed appropriately.

Assists the Technician Supervisor with the orientation and training of new hires as assigned.

Adheres to all facility and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality assurance programs as well as safety, environmental and infection control standards in the performance of work duties.

Maintains professional growth and development through continuing education to remain current.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Technician Supervisor or Supervising Pharmacist.

Is responsible for arranging coverage of any whole or partial shifts needed off after the schedule is posted.

Helps maintain the department in a clean and orderly fashion.

Qualifications:

Knowledge of general pharmacy practices and procedures

Registration with the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy

Interpersonal skills to successfully interact with coworkers, vendors and other hospital staff in all situations

Demonstrated competency in each area of the Performance Measurement Tool

Enrolled in an accredited College of Pharmacy with a plan to graduate with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree within the next 3-4 years.
