POSITION PURPOSE
-

This position will support the software development of the Store Inventory product. This software product provides our ~2000 US stores with technology that supports the intake and movement of over $40B worth of inventory. This functional area is the focus of not only the Store Operations team but also their Supply Chain and Merchandising partners. Improvements to this software consistently support our strategy of being the #1 Customer Service retailer by ensuring product availability and helping to shift tasking hours to customer facing hours. In addition, the Store Operations team is transforming how product moves within a store to better support the company's shift to becoming an omni-channel retailer. To do all of this, multiple updates need to be made to the Store Inventory product in support of major cross functional initiatives. Historical spend in this area has ranged from $3 M- $5M a year. This role will support software development efforts for these projects, ensuring that they deliver on time, on budget and with quality.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS -
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred.
  • 7 plus years of experience in related field; 3 to 5 of which is in a leader/ team lead capacity.
  • Development acumen in: Java Web Services, HTML5 client development.
MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES -
  • Builds relationship with key user and store operation groups to identify and resolve business issues.
  • Manages and provides technical and business direction that affects capacity planning, new applications, data security, and LAN systems, among others.
  • Manages and tracks the progress of multiple projects. Project management and administration that include work plans, projtrac, resource planning and control, writing status reports, and preparing annual budgets. Conduct regular project reviews.
  • Resolves information services problems by analyzing issues, discerning the most appropriate courses of action, providing tactical direction and, when necessary, reallocating resources.
  • Provides operations analysis and consults to internal clients on business process improvement.
  • Conducts financial analyses to support strategic planning on system purchases, upgrades and reclamation. Negotiates favorable prices with vendors on hardware and software.
  • Communicates status of activities with the team, peers, management, and end-users.
  • Selects, develops and motivates assigned staff.

  • Typically reports to a Director, Senior Manager, or Vice President.
  • Typically have supervisory responsibilities for Engineers or Specialists at all levels.
  • Typically requires frequent persuasion or influencing of others.
  • Typically procedures for analyzing situations and making conclusions are diverse.
  • Typically considers among many different options or procedures when solving problems.
  • Typically, once given general assignments, determines priorities and defines what should be done and how to do it.

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -
Under constant pressure to continuously meet tight deadlines, demanding quotas and/or must regularly deal with difficult situations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS -
  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must pass the Drug Test.
  • Must successfully complete any required training or orientation courses.
EDUCATION REQUIRED -

The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diplomas and/or GED.

YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE - 5

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -

Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about.
On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS -

1-2 years of experience in a leader/ team lead capacity.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES-
  • Knowledge of MS Office.
  • Expert proficiency with the Home Depot software architecture, methodology, and governance process.
  • People leadership/supervisory skills.
  • Technical skills may include experience with one or more of: UNIX, Informix, COBOL, JAVA, Catalyst WMS and YMS, Korn Shell Scripting, Novell, Netware, nnet, Sequelink, TSO/ISPF/MVS, DB2/SQL, JCL, CSP, CICS TCP/IP, Visual.
  • Basic, Networking, and LAN administration.
  • Problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Presentation, facilitation and writing skills.
  • Project management- estimating, planning, controlling, and execution.
