General Responsibilities:

Hertz Equipment Rental Corporation (HERC), one of the largest suppliers of industrial & construction equipment, seeks experienced individuals for a Mechanic position available at our branch. The purpose of the Mechanic position within the Hertz Equipment Rental Division is to utilize his/her mechanical expertise to support the needs of the branch in a professional, safe and timely manner. An individual in this position will work to keep all equipment in top running condition through an effective preventative maintenance program. This incumbent is a master technician and assumes a leadership role of product knowledge and standard of quality within the branch. He has mastered the operating standards of his facility, the region and corporation.

Basic Understanding:

Internal Combustion Engines (both gas and diesel) DC Electrical Systems 12, 24, 48 volts Propane Systems Hydraulics Track Equipment Aerial Equipment Heavy Trucks/Automotive Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot:

Fuel Systems Electrical Systems Hydraulic Systems Propane Systems

Mandatory Requirements:

Strong mechanical aptitude Read and interpret specifications and manuals Ability to diagnose and repair a wide variety of mechanical and electrical equipment Ability to safely use hand and power tools, equipment, and diagnostic devices Ability to understand and fill out service-related documents and paperwork Must be able to operate a 2 way radio, if necessary Requires the ability to lift, push or pull and move up to 70 pounds and must be capable of climbing, kneeling, twisting and bending in a varied environment Must be dependable and report to work on time Must be able to communicate effectively with customers, supervisors, yard and dispatch personnel Must exhibit a high level of safety consciousness and a clear understanding of equipment safety Good written and verbal communication skills Must maintain satisfactory driving record at all times which may be subject to approval by company’s insurer and in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws Maintain and update equipment records by entering data into a computer A high school diploma (or equivalent) A valid driver’s license plus must be able to meet 24/7 Studio’s driving policy requirements Vocational Training and/or Technical Certificate or equivalent 5+ years experience as a heavy equipment/diesel mechanic, preferably in the field Experience performing industrial lift and/or aerial equipment repairs preferred Provide own tools and possess ability to safely and effectively use them Must be able to perform basic computer operations

Preferred Requirements :

You'll be responsible for repairs to all rental equipment, shop equipment, and trucks in accordance with HERC quality and efficiency standards.

Educational Background:

High school degree/GED preferred

Professional Experience:

2+ years experience in the heavy equipment industry, diesel engine experience and hydraulics preferred Ability to perform complete Preventative Maintenance Functions unassisted Basic welding techniques

Requirements:

Own a mechanic's tool set, capable of supporting general heavy equipment fleet, including electrical and internal combustion engine, aerial fleet and be willing to expand personal tools Must be able to lift 50+ lbs Comply with all HERC and Branch Safety rules Maintains a safe and clean work environment Willingness to work overtime when required Valid driver’s license in good standing
