About this job

The Nurse Practitioner will work within the Division of Digestive & Liver Diseases of the Department of Medicine at CUMC. S/he will be managing complex patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Duties will include providing follow up care for patients with IBD; administration of medications including biologic drugs; and care coordination under the supervision of the director of the center. Coordination of patient care and communication with co-managing specialties (including surgery and nutrition) will be required. Responsible for triage of lab data and phone calls to determine appropriate action; counseling of patients and family; and developing familiarity with community resources. As part of the IBD team, s/he will maintain leadership responsibility and accountability for managing the delivery of patient care and facilitates efficient and cost-effective daily operations. Promotes a culture of safety and quality by ensuring continuity and consistency in the implementation of established standards, protocol, policies, and procedures. In collaboration with the director, participates in the establishment of short and long term goals for the center. S/he will assist physicians with related duties as directed and perform other tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

Requires Master's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus 1-2 years of experience, plus a current New York State NP and RN license.

Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

Knowledge of IV infusion therapy. Knowledge of immune suppression therapy (or experience with transplant medications). Effective interpersonal skills. Ability to use electronic health records to document notes and order labs.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in the care of patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). Ability to communicate in Spanish strongly preferred.
