Cobol Programmer - Full-time / Part-time

We have a full-time/part-time opening for a Cobol Programmer.

Must be able to work various shifts per week.

Experis IT is working with a top client of ours in San Antonio, TX to identify strong Cobol Programmers to join their team for a long-term contract engagement. Ideal candidates will have 1+ year experience in Cobol Programming and be skilled working with JCL, CICS and Oracle relational databases.

JOB SCOPE
Develop, maintain and enhance programs and/or systems assigned.
Maintain and develop programs using TSO, Command Level CICS and COBOL.
Develop programs that access Oracle database.
Test computer programs, and test their behavior under all operating environments.
Work with web developers to produce server side programs containing business logic and database access.
Implement changes to existing systems caused by statutory changes or new ideas submitted by users.
Assist with and/or conduct training programs for consultants and users.
Write programs for user's special requests.
Assist consultants in problem determination and determining the correct action to be taken.
Assist documentation staff with preparation of user manuals.
Prepare the billing forms for special processing requests.

EXPERIENCE
One year of COBOL programming experience is required.
One year of experience developing and maintaining on-line teleprocessing systems is required.
Sufficient knowledge of SQL and relational databases to develop assigned programs is mandatory.
Prior experience using TSO, ISPF or comparable system is desirable.
Basic knowledge of web page development using HTML and JavaScript is desirable.
Prior experience with web application servers is preferred.
Prior experience using Job Control Language (JCL) is desired.

REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in computer science or related fields, or a proven record of success as a COBOL programmer (strongly preferred).
Strong mainframe COBOL background, including JCL and CICS experience.
Oracle relational database experience (even if it is DB2) and query-writing is a must.
