SUMMARY The primary responsibility of the Host/Cashier is to ensure guests are warmly and cheerfully greeted, whether in person or on the telephone, and to seat arriving guests in a timely manner. They also serve as the restaurant’s first and last impression and must make sure guests thoroughly enjoy their dining experience. The Host/Cashier determines the number in an arriving party; guides guests through the dining rooms providing any needed assistance, seats guests by finding a clean, available table; pulling out chairs; placing clean/current menu in front of guest, and notifies them of the days specials. Move and arrange tables, chairs, and settings and organize seating for groups with special needs. Ensure place settings are appropriate and each guest has a napkin, clean silverware, and any other item that is part of the standard place setting. Check menus to ensure they are current, clean, plentiful, and wrinkle-free. Maintain cleanliness of work areas throughout the day, practicing clean-as-you-go procedures. Monitor dining rooms for seating availability, service, safety, and well being of guests. Assists server staff as needed or instructed by management. Speak with others using clear and professional language, and answer telephones using appropriate etiquette. Ability to process micros/cash transactions accurately.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintains consistent attention to the entrance of the restaurant and welcomes all guests with a smile and appropriate greeting following Forty North Restaurant Group hospitality and service standards.
  • Accepts restaurant reservations upon availability, and, records customer reservations or seating times in a consistent manner providing the highest quality of service to the guest at all times.
  • Approach and greet customer in prompt and courteous manner, thanking them upon departure.
  • Determine guest’s requirements, (i.e., the number in a party, other accommodations required such as wheel chairs access, special requests, etc.).
  • Answer telephones using proper phone etiquette as described in company standards.
  • Seat arriving guests as quickly as possible and determine accurate wait periods as needed.
  • Properly rotate server stations when seating guests (requires knowledge of server abilities).
  • Assist service staff in ensuring tables are cleared and cleaned after each use, and are set properly.
  • Ensure all areas of the restaurant are clean, particularly entrance and podium area.
  • Performs the tasks of the cashier and/or bus person as required including cashing out guests checks to speed up service.
  • Accepts responsibility for cash register bankroll, all cash received, charge card and complimentary receipts.
  • Prepares multiple reports.
  • Understands and follows Forty North cash handling policies and procedures and maintain proper security of cash at all times.
  • Tours assigned station, refilling water and coffee, removing service items and condiments per restaurant procedures.
  • Follow proper opening and closing procedures including necessary paperwork and reports, if any
  • Perform other duties in a team effort during downtime which may include rolling silverware, expediting food orders, washing dishes, preparing food for the To-go areas and properly cleaning and filling table condiments (salt and pepper, sugar, napkins, ketchup and mustard bottles)

QUALIFICATIONS

Passion to provide excellent customer service is required. Previous experience as a cashier and/or host preferred. Previous experience with accounting or heavy math preferred. High School degree or equivalent. Must be at least 18 years of age or older. Must be able to initiate and engage in conversation in a professional and friendly manner. Must possess excellent communication skills. Must present a professional and pleasant appearance that guests will find appealing and approachable in order to engage in conversation. Must be able to work any day of the week, any shift. Must be able to get along well with co-workers and work as a team. Must be willing to participate in on-going training. Must have knowledge of current property events, promotions and attractions.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to work in a noisy environment and maneuver through assigned area during entire shift. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to converse over the telephone in an environment with loud background noise. Must be able to stoop, bend and reach. Able to use hand motion when cleaning and wiping tables. Able to bend, pull and carry up to 40 pounds. Responds to visual and oral cues. Able to complete required paperwork for cash transactions. Able to operate a variety of equipment. Must be able to simultaneously handle the demands of many guests. Must present a pleasant and professional appearance that customers will find appealing and easy to approach in order to initiate and engage in conversation. Shifts may vary based on business needs.
