This position requires a valid Class A driver’s license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department's Driver's Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following:

three (3) or more moving violations in the past 3 years that accumulate 3 or more points per violation;

any 2 convictions of reckless driving in the past 3 years;

a suspension or revocation of the driver’s license for moving violations in the past 3 years; and

a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction in the past 4 years

Your driving record will be reviewed and the status of your driver’s license confirmed. A mandatory drug screening will be performed on the successful applicant.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Supervises employees spending majority of their time communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees, and planning and directing employees’ work. Includes the development, coordination, and participation in the roadside maintenance program. Assist the Maintenance Field Operations Manager in work need surveys by conducting routine highway maintenance inspections. Select materials, supplies, equipment, inspecting, planning workloads, work flows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization for employees. Train crew members in the proper identification and inspection of defective areas. Provide technical assistance and instruction on roadside defects and determine corrective action required.

Maintain records of operation. Prepare and maintain daily paperwork such as crew activity reports, work orders and daily vehicle check lists. Complete reports and documents required for safety issues, personnel matters, and equipment usage and repair.

Operate vehicles and a variety of medium and heavy equipment. Perform preventative maintenance and pre-trip inspections on equipment. Perform light maintenance and servicing work in connection with any type of equipment; assist in the repair of equipment; check fluids and add as needed to maintain proper fluid levels; ensure maintenance of proper air pressure in all tires, etc.

Perform manual labor in the maintenance of highways, and other highway facilities while utilizing a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools.

Perform maintenance of traffic and provide instruction on the basics of maintenance of traffic.

Interpret the Maintenance Management System Standards and select the most efficient and productive means of performing assigned work, the Florida Department of Transportation Loss Prevention Procedures and be aware of reducing personal injury and vehicle accidents.

SPECIAL NOTES: Due to the nature of this position, the incumbent must respond to emergencies and be “on call” (24 hour duty) when necessary. While on-duty status, the position’s incumbent must be readily available to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV), consistent with the type of commercial driver's license (CDL). The incumbent is required to possess, or on a routine basis performs other CMV safety-sensitive functions. A valid Class "A" CDL is required. The incumbent of this position is required to work around Department of Corrections inmates. Must obtain certification in Maintenance of Traffic – Advanced Level within one year and maintain it.
