PURPOSE:The Sr. Network Engineer position will be responsible for the definition of, design of, hardware selection and certification for all fiber and coax-based commercial services/product. This position will also be responsible for the oversight and ongoing mentoring/training of Network Engineers within the Commercial Engineering team.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Responsible for defining standard configurations and topology of all core, edge and CPE routing and switching equipment necessary for the delivery of all optically-based Business Class products and services. This includes selection and certification of equipment.Test, validate and document all new core, edge and CPE hardware and configurations, to vet out potential loss of feature parity, or introduction of new software bugs and/or hardware problems.Develop and review product definitions, design standards, and configuration guides and communicate with regional engineering staff on all updated documentation from the CNI group.Conduct training classes intended to assist regional engineering groups with continued education, as well as familiarization with standardization efforts.Design and implement laboratory scenarios intended to replicate use cases and/or induce worst case scenario loads on equipment, and document results clearly and objectively.Respond to after hours escalation for service restoration, troubleshooting, network testing and repair of all core equipment necessary for the delivery of TWC’s Fiber Service offerings. Write documentation for hardware certification, design standards for both Cell Tower Backhaul as well as Enterprise commercial fiber services, OSS procedures, and product definitions.Regularly engage internal customers to ensure communication and ingestion of all new documentation.Assist with the management and maintenance of OSS servers and applications.Write technical documents to outline proposed standards for configuration, design and support of commercial services.Identifies, learns about and applies emerging technologies that are applicable to TWC’s networks and service offerings.Maintain security to all network equipment including development and maintenance of commercial firewalls and access lists.Participates and/or leads the process involved in making recommendations for improvements and the development of technical standards.Participates and/or leads the process involved in the development and implementation of disaster recovery procedures.Conducts network studies and traffic analyses, prepares network capacity forecasts and recommends modifications that will reduce costs and/or improve service.Handles major, more complex network projects with full competency. Applies judgment in analyzing and resolving problems.Receives no instruction on routine work and general instructions on new assignments. Capable of identifying and starting new projects with no direction.Guides and trains less experienced network engineers.Work is generally supervised and reviewed for timeliness, accuracy, and good judgment.Demonstrates proficiency in and working knowledge of network technologies.Recommends improvements and development of technical standards.Expected and required to act as a team lead and mentor for Network EngineersPerforms other duties as assigned.JOB REQUIREMENTS: Expert understanding of Ethernet technology, Y.1731, 802.1ag, 802.3ah, CWDM, DWDM, LAN, WAN network design and an understanding of all OSI layers from application to physicalAdvanced Layer2 experience/knowledge in VLANs, stacked switches, QinQ, dot1q and MEF defined services.Thorough understanding of transport protocols including MPLS, VPLS, RPR, SONET and relatedExperience in configuration and support of IP Telephony (SIP)Intimate knowledge of IP Multicasting, OSPF, RIP, ISIS, EIGRP, SNMP and BGPExpert understanding of VPN technologies, including but not limited to VPLS, L3VPN, L2TPv3, IPSec, and MPLSoGREExperience in design, configuration, implementation, support and operation of ring/mesh/star, high end Layer2 & Layer3 networksExperience in optics and optical networking and possesses a demonstrated knowledge of CWDM/DWDM systems, fiber amplifiers, optical components, and associated networking technologiesStrong Metro Ethernet knowledge including Carrier Ethernet, QOS, COS, OAM, CIR, EVC, EPL, EVPL, E-Line, E-LAN, E-Tree, Etc.Experience with RF design (Microwave, Wifi)Experience with hospitality Wifi design using centralized controller architecture, survey/test equipment, and customer billing interfaces.Working knowledge and experience with HFC infrastructure with emphasis on CMTS and DOCSIS Experience with point to point video transport including ASI, SD-SDI, HD-SDI (both 1.5g and 3g) and JPEG2KExperienced and knowledgeable in network incident isolation and troubleshooting techniques including network troubleshooting tools including OTDR, OSA, Ethernet/TDM Meter, RF Meter, Multimeter. Advanced understanding of OSPF, ISIS, BGP and detail leveled routingComplete understanding of CIDR, IP Subnetting, ASN and ARIN allocationsMust be able to maintain regular attendance.Must be able to interact in a positive manner with coworkers, follow directions and work rules, and accepts constructive feedback.5-7 years of designing, deploying, operating, trouble resolution and supporting MPLS, VPLS, BGP and Metro Ethernet services.5 years of designing, deploying, operating, trouble resolution and supporting WDM OTH transport technologies (DWDM, CWDM, ADM, OADM, ROADM)Must possess a valid driver’s license and safe driving history.Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to interact with and establish rapport with all levels of management, staff, and the public. Must be able to present information to colleagues/management in a clear and comprehensible manner.Strong interpersonal skills required. Must be able to project a positive company image, interact professionally with customers, vendors, and all levels of company management.Must possess basic mathematical skills including the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and logarithms.Must have ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Must be able to perform analysis, define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.Must have proven ability to work independently with limited supervision as well as in a team environment. Requires strong problem solving and trouble shooting skills.Must possess excellent organization skills and the ability to handle multiple duties and priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Strong follow-through skills, attention to detail and ability to produce work with a high degree of accuracy required.Overtime maybe required.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Working experience with Juniper MX platform and Junos preferredIndustry recognized network certification is preferred but not requiredEDUCATION:High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor ' s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or equivalent training, education and experience.TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:Up to 20% of time.
