The Senior Manager, Patient Safety is a key leadership position on the team that will drive the development and execution of programs designed to support our pharmacies in the areas of Patient Safety. This position requires an individual that can manage multiple high profile work streams with a sense of urgency and is accountable for delivering high quality results.

This position requires strong collaboration skills as it is necessary to work cross functionally and influence our stores teams, field leadership and internal business partners. This position will routinely interact with the following groups: Enterprise Patient Safety Organization (EPSO), Patient Safety leaders from Mail, Specialty, Minute Clinic, and Coram, Legal, Compliance, Pharmacy Operations, IS, Pharmacy Merchandising, Quality, Professional Practice Standards, Field Leadership, and Payer Relations.

The ideal candidate will be able to think in a structured and logical way to identify and define business problems, develop strategic, analytical, solutions and measure success. Be process oriented, and able to assess complex workflows to identify vulnerabilities and areas to improve, be an effective and succinct communicator to all levels of the organization, and demonstrate a developed ability to manage, develop, and mentor more junior team members

Responsibilities

The Manager, Patient Safety is responsible for a broad range of areas including:

• Analysis of aggregated Dispensing Incident Reports to identify trends and factors that lead to events

• Monitoring Dispensing Incident Reporting, Trend Analysis and Monthly Dashboards creation and validation by Area/Region/District/Store, Error type, Workstation, and a variety of factors

• Oversee surveillance of Dispensing Incident Reports to include investigations and Root Cause Analysis to interpretation of incident data to identify patterns and trends, identify appropriate quality improvement steps

• Oversee the provision of informational, troubleshooting and diagnostic support to inquiries from Customer Relations, Regulatory Compliance, Risk management and HIPAA privacy office and conduct analysis to evaluate and validate complaints as warranted

• Manage ad hoc analysis on relevant topics and critical assessments and clinical lens applied to defined focused reports

• Consultant work on a variety of operational areas to ensure the Patient Safety lens is applied in the design and implementation of these programs

• Serve as primary contact for resolution of escalated recovery activities to include critical care events, media inquiries, executive contacts, payor member complaints, litigation and regulatory compliance

• Oversee deep Clinical Analysis in relation to Dispensing Incidents and develop appropriate solutions to address

• Review HARM Score assign for qualified events and determine next steps Direct Investigations and Root Cause Analysis for all qualified events and track progress/manage to completion

• Identify system enhancements and process improvements related to findings from Investigations and RCA’s

• Consult and advise on system design changes in support of the Patient Safety agenda

• Support EPSO activities as needed and be an active participant in regularly scheduled meetings, work groups, and committees

• Support Field management in the execution of Patient Safety programs and direct field communications e.g. Pharmacy Supervisor call, Patient Safety articles, etc.

• Evaluates and maintains Patient Safety Policy and Procedures

• Coordinate Pharmacist / Technician Medication Event Committee meeting quarterly

Required Qualifications • 3 – 5 years Pharmacy Supervisor experience required

• 5 - 8 years working as a pharmacist or equivalent Post-Doctoral Training in relevant area(s), including retail pharmacy

• High-degree of current clinical pharmacy knowledge

• Demonstrate attention to detail and ability to support multiple work streams simultaneously with the ability to identify and readjust priorities as needed while consistently meeting deadlines

• Ability to manage direct report(s) as the need arises and a passion for developing high performing teams, including selecting, organizing, and motivating colleagues to work together in a committed way to achieve a common mission.

• Demonstrated ability for independent judgment and initiative

• Competent with spreadsheets and presentation software, including knowledge of MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and MS Word

• Excellent communication and writing skills

• Ability to travel periodically

Preferred Qualifications • District Manager (Registered) experience recommended

Education • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree or equivalent from a competitive program required

• Masters degree preferred
