The Master Trainer is responsible for the training and development of the role that they are specialized in. Specialization areas include: Line, Customer Experience Specialist and Supervisor. The primary responsibility of the Master Trainer is to equip team members with the knowledge, practical skills and motivation to carry out their work related task, as well as convey company’s culture, values, expectations and mission. The Master Trainer assists with the ongoing, long-term improvement of team members’ skills, enabling them to fulfill their potential within the company. They should be strategic rather than reactive, assessing skills and knowledge to determine what training is needed to grow and retain these skills.

Skills:

Decision Making and Implementation: Master Trainers may be asked to develop or assess materials that will help team members understand the subjects being taught. They will have to understand the needs of the trainees and judge what will work. Master trainers will assist in determining the best programs to train team members and meet the needs of the company.

Communication: Master Trainers may be asked to speak in large groups, and present to groups and/or individual team members. They must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be friendly, clear, and strong in the communication.

Management: Master Trainers must possess strong leadership skills, and be able to execute training and motivation of team members both individually and in group settings.

General Accountabilities include some or all of the following:

  • delivering/overseeing the delivery of training to individuals or groups of team members
  • ensuring that basic training requirements are met by trainees
  • identifying training and development needs through job analysis, appraisal and regular consultation with executive team, managers and supervisors
  • designing and expanding training and development programs based on the changing needs of the company; amending and revising programs as necessary
  • considering the costs of planned programs and keeping within budgets to allow the ability to assess the return on investment of training or development programs
  • conducting appraisals and site audits to assess the outcomes of training programs
  • devising individual learning plans as needed
  • producing training materials for in-house courses as needed
  • managing the delivery of training and development programs through scheduling and oversight
  • receiving feedback on the progress of trainees through observation, 360 reviews, and discussions with managers and exec team, and all team member levels
  • helping team members and other trainers solve specific training problems, either on a one-to-one basis or in groups
  • keeping up to date with developments in training by reading relevant journals, going to meetings and attending relevant courses as indicated
  • presenting new methodologies in workplace learning as indicated
  • May be required to travel to other company locations for onsite training

The Master Trainer must also be able to execute any tasks of the job descriptions of their area of specialty, and must be ready and eager to learn any role or additional tasks assigned by the GM.
