Supports the operations, development and implementation teams. Promotes improved infrastructure architectures and best practices. Provides an interface to the customer development teams. Provides a systems focus when working with design application architectures. Tune/optimize deployed applications from a systems perspective. This requires an individual with proven experience with:



  • Virtualization

  • Database and application server optimization

  • Interacting with Development teams focusing on maximizing effectiveness without compromising production environments

  • Work as a final escalation point for Internal and Customer deployed application environments

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Design, scale, and automate Monitoring and Alerting infrastructure

  • Build resilient and self-scaling systems

  • Monitor site stability and performance

  • Willing to participate in on-call production support rotation

  • Able to quickly understand complex applications and come up with performance test strategies and scenarios

  • Individual chosen will be the SME for Splunk design and expansion. Administration, configuration and troubleshooting for Extrahop

  • Consolidates and normalizes log data looking for anomalies and running reports

  • Created customized and ad hoc reporting using regular expressions

  • Creating standardized reports and threshold alerting mechanisms

  • Driving and managing the technology evaluation and integration of add-ons for Splunk

  • Analyze results of monitoring and make recommendations on performance


Requirements

Required Qualifications:




  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Engineering, Mathematics, or Computer Science

  • Expert knowledge Monitoring and Alerting landscape, tools, best practices

  • Building and Managing Monitoring and Alerting infrastructure in a Highly-Available, 24x7 production environment

  • Experience with System Management tools (Splunk, Extrahop preferred)

  • Advanced and proven experience achieving and maintaining 99.999% availability of networks and network services

  • Experienced with environments having 40+ servers

  • Well organized with a healthy sense of urgency, and able to set, communicate, and meet aggressive deadlines and milestones

  • Able and comfortable presenting to customers

  • Self-Managed and Organized, able to schedule own work flow

  • Excellent Trouble Shooting Skills. Comfortable making recommendations at the Enterprise level, looking at systems holistically as well as individual components experience with Linux in a server environment 

Preferred Qualifications:




  • Experience with networking, server, application and web technologies

  • Experience in Linux

  • Sniffer products (protocols)

  • Experienced with hosting and scaling Java application servers (Tomcat, JBoss, etc.) in a highly available and high throughput environment

  • Experience with MSSQL

  • Working knowledge of maintaining databases, optimizing developer queries, index creation, replication, backup, Network and server technologies. Experience maintaining systems in a load balancer hardware and software (F5 BigIP)

  • Script development experience using Perl, PHP, TCL, windows Batch, Bash Shell, Python, etc.

  • Experience with VMware

  • Experience with Windows 2003 a2008R, 2012

  • Understanding of Network Spans, SNMP


  • Experience with at least either SQL or Oracle



  • Understanding of IIS, connection pooling preferred -  WMI, JMX



  • Experience using tools like Syslog-ng, Cacti, and rrdtool, Solarwinds, SevOne, Network Instruments, and Keynote/Gomez



  • Proficient with at least scripting language on Unix (Perl, PHP, Python)



  • Experience with at least SAN vendor's technology
