Systems Administrator (Linux)

Location: Boston, MA

Our client, GenomeQuest, is currently looking for a System Administrator (Linux) with an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to make an impact. Reporting to the Director of IT, the System Administrator will work with the System Administrator, Development team, QA and Product team to ensure a dynamic, robust, and scalable infrastructure to support our multiple platforms.

This mid-level Systems Administrator will be responsible for handling day-to-day information technology (IT) operations for the organization. That means providing systems support for end users, running support tasks for hardware devices and software packages, help with installation setups, providing training, answering technology questions as needed, completing administrative tasks when required, filling out documentation when requesting new inventory and development of and revision of existing documentation guidelines. You'll remove security threats and malware from company systems, trace network failures, ensure that regular backups are working, perform data recovery, assist in workstation life cycle rotations, monitor servers, work with others to minimize downtime, and prevent data corruption.

Passion for ensuring it's exactly right with a tendency to test too much.
A love for learning new technologies and an ability to learn them fast.
Experience in Windows and Mac OS X.
Must have 1+ years system administration experience with Redhat or derivative Linux in a medium business environment. You will be asked to complete a small questionnaire to assess this skill.
Must have command line and shell scripting experience in a Linux environment.
Current driver's license and car required for trips to and from GenomeQuest's server co location.

Basic MySQL administration - configuration, backups
Apache and other webserver administration on Linux platforms
Amazon Web Services (EC2 and RDS)

Nagios or other open source monitoring technologies
Large system installations that include SAN storage
Certification with any of Red Hat / Windows / Solaris will be a definite plus
SOLR, Cassandra, Hadoop, MySQL
Experience with vi editor
Bash and/or PERL shell scripting
Networking core concepts
RAID
Sun Grid Engine or Univa Grid Engine
