The role of Manager, Restructuring and Workouts, will provide commercial lending expertise, financial analysis and operational support for restructuring Diners Club franchises. This position plays an important role within Payment Services Risk Management “first line of defense” supporting the goal of transitioning Diners Club franchises from weaker to stronger partners. Key responsibilities for this role include: a) developing strategic alternatives for complex restructurings, including commercial lending workout options, b) financial analysis & monitoring, c) developing project plans, d) project management during the restructuring cycle, and e) management updates.

This is a collaborative role working cross-functionally across the company and consequently has high visibility within Discover. Additionally, this role offers an opportunity to gain valuable international experience working with Diners Club global partners.

The ideal candidate will possess a financial background with strong analytical skills including the ability to digest and assess financial statements and related documents for informed decision making. Additionally, commercial lending experience and exposure to loan restructuring workouts is also desirable. We are looking for experienced professionals with backgrounds in Finance, Credit Risk and/or Operations for this role. To be successful, potential candidates should have a diverse background including a combination of financial and/or credit analysis skills, project management exposure and back office operations experience. Exposure to international business practices is a plus. International business travel may be required. This role is an individual contributor and has no direct reports.

This position reports to the Director-Workouts, and supports business efforts to improve and upgrade the quality of business partners, grow global network volume, and improve financial performance.

Job Responsibilities:
• Develop strategic options and plans for partner transitions, evaluate options, present recommendations and implement proposed solutions in coordination with business line management
• If commercial lending options are required for partner transitions, develop lending workout options and structures to minimize DFS/DCI financial risks
• Perform detailed financial analysis of transition partners financial condition to identify appropriate strategies
• Continuously monitor financial health of partners in transition by conducting in-depth analysis of financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flows, receivables trending, portfolio quality, etc) and other available data. Modify transition plan as required
• Develop presentations to report and inform various constituencies on the status and issues associated with transition partners
• Project manage partners during transitions and wind downs (in coordination with business line management). Create high level and detailed project plans; update and modify plans as necessary. Track progress and manage transition issues to achieve overall project goals and objectives. Manage transitions to their final conclusion
• Evaluate compliance with loan covenants and interface with borrower on issues; recommend improvements to minimize risks
• Develop MIS necessary to effectively monitor the status of partner
• Monitor and implement requirements called for under various contractual agreements related to partner transitions
• Effectively engage and collaborate with business line management as well as subject matter experts for legal, compliance, risk and finance to successfully manage partner transitions
• Promote a risk-aware culture; ensure efficient and effective risk and compliance management practices by adhering to required standards and processes.

Qualifications

• 9 years of experience working in financial services industry
• Bachelor’s degree required (concentration in Finance, Accounting, or Credit & Risk disciplines preferred)
• Superb financial analysis and financial acumen with ability to rapidly assess financial statements, loan agreements, and investment data (these skills will be honed based on extensive experience in quantitative financial analysis including disciplines such as financial statement analysis, risk analysis, and financial forecasting & analysis)
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, including MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word
• Experience using COGNOS reporting tools
• Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills; strong ability to communicate both big picture and details
• Ability to interact with individuals from various disciplines and management levels – inside and outside of the U.S.
• Ability to multi-task and manage unstructured projects
• Ability to synthesize large amounts of data and communicate succinct observations and recommendations
• Strong understanding of payments network business including merchant acquiring and card issuing business, particularly receivables financing component
• Team player
• Quick learner with ability to work independently with minimal direction
• Highly organized with high quality work product
• Proven problem solving, decision making, and leadership skills required
• Willingness to travel internationally (10-15%) with overseas stints up to 2 weeks
• MBA, CPA, or a concentration in finance, accounting, or credit & risk preferred
• International business exposures
• Seasoned background with broad exposure to financial aspects of businesses including a combination of skills in financial analysis and/or credit risk management
