Key Responsibilities

This position provides environmental, health, safety, and security support to the Site. The primary function of the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist is to support plant safety and health process, which includes day to day support of the EHS department efforts and program implementation. Specific areas of responsibility includes: Facilitate plant-wide EHS training programs, including designing and delivering regulatory and technical training courses (e.g., Lockout/Tagout; HazCom; Hot Work; Confined Space; etc…) work with plant department training coordinators with regards to job specific training (on-the-job-training), coordinating new hire orientation, and maintain records and other related documentation associated with training. Provide key support to the plant industrial hygiene (IH) programs by developing the plant IH strategy, and capturing IH samples. Coordinate employee physicals and work with the site consulting physician relative to occupational health interests. Assist in worker’s compensation claims management including working with the site’s third party administrator (TPA) to set up claims, and communicate regularly and timely with supervision, management and injured/ill employee. Oversee the onsite contract security personnel as well as reconciling contract security company invoices and authorizing payment. Other responsibilities include providing EHS Department assistance for ordering key EHS supplies, and overseeing safety shoe, eyewear programs, and first aid supply cabinets.

Qualifications

Experience and Education

Successful candidates must have B.S. in Safety/Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering or related science, coupled with 0-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably a chemical facility.

Functional and Technical Skills

The incumbent must have a working understanding of OSHA, Regulatory Compliance, and Workers’ Compensation practices as well as awareness of Industrial Hygiene requirements; possess an understanding of industrial (e.g. production/chemical) related equipment; experience with inspections, audits, hazard reviews, and safety analysis. Strong communication, computer, and problem-solving skills are also required.
