Kingwood Pines Hospital a 116 bed facility located in the beautiful residential Kingwood community. We are located about 30 miles northeast of the Houston Medical Center. The hospital provides 24-hour emergency services. We serve children, adolescents, adults for psychiatric and behavioral health. The hospital also has services in intensive outpatient and partial hospital program services. Kingwood Pines Hospital currently has a Registered Nurse position available. The candidate selected will be responsible for the following:

Purpose: To provide nursing care for psychiatric patients, including child, adolescent, geriatric and chemical dependency patients using the nursing process. To assess mental health needs, develop nursing diagnoses, identify outcomes, plan and evaluate nursing care. To administer and/or monitor the effects and side effects of medications and treatments ordered by a physician. To ensure safety and provide milieu management and crisis intervention strategies. Patients served include adults (18+), geriatric (66+), adolescents (13-17) and children (5-12).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To initiate and document any special treatment procedures clearly and concisely.

2. To recognize signs and symptoms of chemical dependency disorders and apply/utilize appropriate treatment interventions.

3. To recognize signs and symptoms of mental health disorders and apply/utilize appropriate treatment interventions.

4. To assess, direct and intervene in crisis situations.

5. To provide leadership and direction to licensed vocational nurses, psychiatric technicians and counselors.

6. To provide assessment of patients' psychiatric and medical status.

7. To contribute to treatment plan as a member of interdisciplinary team.

8. To administer medication and medical treatment as prescribed by a Physician.

9. To provide and direct milieu management.

10. To document nursing care, treatment and patient's response to treatment.

11. To provide health education to patients and families.

12. Maintains the standards of service excellence at all times.

Customers Served: Patients, families, allied health professionals, physicians, other registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, psychiatric technicians, counselors, unit secretaries, administrative personnel, members of the management team, and staff from all hospital departments .

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of appropriate nursing assessment, diagnosis, treatment, planning, intervention and evaluation of psychiatric patients. Ability to accurately administer medication and treatments and monitor for effectiveness and side effects. Knowledge of milieu management. Ability to delegate responsibility to other staff and monitor their performance. Ability to safely implement special treatment procedures. Skill in developing therapeutic relationship with adults, adolescents, children and their families. Skill in preparing and maintaining appropriate medical record documentation. Skill in teaching patients and families about the patient's health needs.

EDUCATION:

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. BSN and ANA Certification preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

Current Texas State Registered Nurse License

Current CPR

Current CPI

EXPERIENCE:

One year inpatient psychiatric experience and one year medical/surgical experience preferred.

OTHER POTENTIAL HAZARD(S):

Participates in therapeutic crisis intervention, which involves some personal risk when dealing with physically aggressive patients.

This position may, from time to time, require that patients outside the normal age group(s) as stated above be cared for. In this event, the employee should consult with his/her direct supervisor to be directed to available resources to provide the appropriate care.

Physical Requirements:

Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients. Manual and finger dexterity. Hand-eye coordination. Ability to run. Ability to assist in restraining patients weighing up to 250 pounds. Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Ability to drive a vehicle. Ability to walk 6+ hours per day, frequently standing, bending, stooping and reaching to check or move equipment and assist patients. Hearing and vision sufficient to perform essential functions. Emotional stability necessary to perform essential functions. Ability to speak clearly. Ability to write legibly.
