WESTWOOD LODGE HOSPITAL IS SEEKING A CHIEF NURSE EXECUTIVE

The Chief Nurse Executive is responsible for the effective and efficient operation of Nursing Services for the facility. Responsibility is inclusive of other assigned departments and services. Provides direct and indirect supervision to Directors of Nursing, Nurse Managers, RN Supervisors, and assigned department heads. Assures effective function of services, coordination between programs, and accountability for quality and resource utilization. Assumes tasks and responsibilities as assigned, by the Hospital CEO. The Chief Nurse Executive assumes oversight of all system nursing operations for Westwood Pembroke Health Systems, covering Westwood Lodge, Lowell Treatment Center and Pembroke Hospital.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

Leadership and Compliance:

As a leader in Nursing services, conducts self in a professional manner, accepts responsibility and serves as a role model for other hospital employees respected by peers yet is assertive with regard to confronting issues that need to be addressed, while maintaining mutual respect.

Develops effective patient care delivery system and implements staffing patterns throughout the institution to meet patient care needs. Monitors the change in the healthcare environment regarding patient care and develops policies and procedures for the organization to meet the changing needs.

Collaborates with the Medical Director, and Program Directors and Managers in the development and evaluation of clinical programs and quality care. Works with the Director of Nursing, Nurse Managers, Supervisors, Nurses and Milieu staff to integrate services into a comprehensive, full-service psychiatric program, which will comply with The Joint Commission and Department of Mental Health standards.

Ensures that all nursing staff attends the required educational programs and are aware of the responsibilities related to Nursing requirements, EOC, infection control and safety standards. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, including but not limited to TJC, DMH and CMS.

Reviews and monitors all quality assessment and crisis/emergency reports and takes corrective action with personnel involved limiting potential of future repeat occurrences. Establishes the nursing mission, philosophy, goals and objectives ensures consistency with the mission, philosophy, goals and objectives of the institution.

Defines and interprets nursing practice. Establishes performance and practice standards for nursing services. Monitors compliance standards for state and federal regulations and accreditation. Establishes and assures adherence to policies and procedures to assign nursing staff members to meet patient care needs. Utilizes accumulated data in making recommendations regarding the allocation of resources to programs and departments.

Works with Patient Safety Committee and Quality Counsel to develop mechanisms to improve the quality and appropriateness of nursing care. Monitors programs and departments to assure that are in compliance with fiscal guidelines and justify budget variances to the CEO.

Supervision

Responsible for the oversight and supervision of Westwood Lodge, Lowell Treatment Center and Pembroke Hospital Nursing Services. Provides supervision to the Director of Nursing, Nurse Managers, Supervisors, Nurse Educator, Access and Admissions, Infection Control Nurse, Security and other assigned departments. Develops and assures the long term staffing patterns adherence to meeting patient care needs in the most efficient manner. Establishes and maintains a suitable environment for clinical practice and patient care.

Productive and Financial Management

Monitors inpatient units and programs to assure they are in compliance with budgeted and fiscal guidelines. Justifies budget variances. Develops and monitors staffing patterns to assure guidelines are adhered to and patients' needs are met.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education : RN, MSN. Master's Degree in Nursing required. Master's Degree in Psychiatric Nursing preferred.

Experience : Minimum of 5 years of experience in Psychiatric/Behavioral Health. Min of 3 years management/administrative and supervision experience.

Technical Skills: Ability to communicate clearly through spoken words and in writing. Knowledge of with Microsoft Office products as well as various office machines.

Other: Must have experience and sensitivity to supervise care for patients in all age groups and with all disabilities within the hospital's scope of operation.

Massachusetts state license with current registration. Work record demonstrates advance leadership experience consistent with job responsibilities. Proven ability to foster teamwork and build consensus.
