* ***There are MULTIPLE vacancies for this classification. Positions filled may be assigned to any shift and any program.***

The Registered Nurse (Safety) will be directed by the Senior Psychiatric Technician, RN Shift Lead or the Health Services Specialist depending on the program assigned. The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:

* Helping to create a clean, safe and therapeutic environment for patients or inmates, applying mental health principles and relationship security with patients or inmates, supervising patient activities

* Performing nursing procedures such as administering medications including oral medications and hypodermic injection, observing and assessing patient or inmate physical condition and behavior and reporting significant changes to the shift lead or physician and recording nurse notes in the patient or inmate record

* MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

* Possession of the legal requirements to practice as a professional Registered Nurse in California. (Applicants who are in the process of securing approval of their qualifications by the California Board of Registered Nurses will be admitted to the examination, but must possess all legal requirements as determined by that Board before they will be considered eligible for appointment.)

In order to be considered for this job vacancy, you must satisfy one of the following requirements:

1. Successfully complete the competitive State civil service exam pertaining to the vacancy, or

2. Have current employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable (employees who wish to be considered based on transfer eligibility must meet the minimum qualifications of the classification per DPA Rule 250) or

3. Have obtained previous employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable.

If applicable, you MUST provide copies of your Training and Development Assignment or out-of-class experience (approved and documented in your department's personnel office), or a copy of your unofficial college transcripts.

*Appointment may be subject to SROA/Surplus restrictions.
