About This Opportunity:

Instructors (Part Time):

Mathnasium in the Washington, DC and Northern Virginia area is looking for motivated, responsible, and passionate “math people” to fill instructor positions. Successful Mathnasium instructors understand the importance of math education and use their impeccable math skills and outgoing personality to help children learn. This is a part-time hourly position.

Responsibilities

• Provide effective and concise math instruction using the Mathnasium Method

• Assist in tracking the progress of each student

• Complete administrative tasks as assigned including daily opening and closing tasks

• Contribute to the creation of an engaging and productive learning environment

Requirements:

Personal Traits: Friendly, outgoing, confident, flexible, sense of humor, professional attitude, trustworthy, passionate, excited, and energetic.

Education: No specific educational requirements, although completed education should demonstrate a propensity towards and aptitude for math. NOTE: Talented high school students are welcome to apply with the understanding that only exceptional high school applicants will be hired and at a lower hourly rate.

Technical Skills: Impeccable math skills up to Pre-Algebra required with skills up to Calculus preferred. This includes Algebra I&II, Geometry (with proofs), Trigonometry, and Pre-Calculus. Applicants will be required to take a rigorous math test, without a calculator, that covers topics through Algebra I.

Other qualifications:

• Passionate about teaching mathematics to children of all ages and the ability to communicate that passion to students and parents.

• Experience working with children between the ages of 5 and 17.

• Generally available during operating hours with the ability to handle a flexible schedule.

o School Year Hours: Mon – Thurs 2:30pm – 8:00pm & Sat 9:00am – 1:00pm

o Summer Hours: Mon – Thurs 10:00am – 7:00pm

About This Opportunity:

Mathnasium in the Washington, DC & Northern Virginia area is expanding and looking for talented math people to fill Center Director positions. A Mathnasium Center Director is responsible for the overall success of an assigned center. At a high level this includes the educational success of each child and the financial success of the center. Successful Center Directors are PASSIONATE about math education, LOVE working with kids of all ages and have the DESIRE to run and perhaps eventually own part of a purpose driven business. Center Directors generally work Monday through Thursday 11am -- 8pm and on Saturday mornings during the school year and Monday through Friday 10am -- 7pm during the summer. Additional hours will be required to fulfill all the requirements of this position. This is a salaried position with benefits.

Responsibilities:

- Assessing students and communicating results

- Teaching, mentoring, and working with children

- Managing the curriculum needs of students

- Communicating with parents about the progress of their child

- Bookkeeping and recordkeeping

- Hiring, training, and mentoring instructors

- Managing schedules

- General business operations

- Marketing or networking in the community

- Selling in person, by email, and by phone

- Providing input to strategic decisions

- Assisting other Center Directors in developing ideas and solving problems

Requirements:

Education: Four year degree required in Education, Mathematics, Engineering, Business or a related field preferred. All bachelor degrees will be considered.

Experience:

- Working with children between the ages of 5 and 17

- Teaching in a classroom, learning center environment, or similar setting

- Managing and mentoring people in a supervisory role

- Providing direct customer service including problem resolution

- Selling in person, by email, and by phone

Technical Skills:

- Proficiency with mathematics.

- Working knowledge of both Windows and Mac based computers and standard applications including Microsoft Office.
