Summary
The Manager, Purchase Accounting is responsible for coordinating the key functions around the capital spending process, advertising spend and forecasting, and the management of all non-merchandise contracts. This includes ensuring compliance to all capital expenditure policies and non-merchandise spending policies as well as the on-going reporting and analysis associated with these areas. This position is also involved in the coordination and timely execution of the month-end and year-end financial close process specific to advertising, capital and IT. Responsibilities require frequent interaction with Marketing, Store Purchasing, Construction, Logistics, Legal, HR and IT departments as well as outside contacts for Coupa.

Scope
  • General Accounting is responsible for the controls around capital spending of approximately $80 Mil per year and approximately $80 to $90 Mil per year of advertising spending. Overseeing the contract management process for all non-merchandise purchasing vendors includes approximately $250 Mil per year. Total staff in the department consists of 3 staff accountants.
  • Oversee the daily activities associated with capital expenditure spending which includes the enforcement of company policies associated with capital spending, monthly reporting, and follow-up with appropriate management.
  • Manage the forecast and on-going spend of all advertising expenses. Coordinate the actual spend vs. budget analysis on a weekly basis as well as analyze variances to the budget and to the forecast.
  • Manage the systemic contract management program by monitoring the annual spend associated with all non-merchandise vendors. Interact with various Officers, Directors and other senior level Management in ensuring compliance to our company policies associated with non-merchandise spending and RFP processes.
  • Oversee the department financial close process (monthly, quarterly, yearly) pertaining to capital, advertising, and IT. Ensure all departmental journal entries (accruals, auto-reversals, and reoccurring entries) and account reconciliations are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Oversee the system administration functions associated with Coupa, including key configuration points, variance thresholds, and overall reporting. Correspond with outside vendor on the tracking and prioritization of future system enhancements. Provide training and customer support to the other departments utilizing Coupa for Procurement or Contract Management.
  • Implement on-going process improvements and controls associated with capital spending, forecasting and the month-end close process.
  • Supervise, train and develop all staff members on a regular basis.
  • Support key Finance Strategic Projects and other company initiatives as needed. Assumes additional responsibilities and performs special projects as needed to support the entire Finance area.


Education Requirements
  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance.


Experience
  • Minimum: 7+ Years previous experience in Accounting or Finance, plus 2 years prior Supervisory experience.
  • Preferred: Previous experience in systems implementation and process improvement.
