At Blake Medical Center, we utilize complete computerized charting ("Electronic Health Record") for our patient assessment and care documentation. We also utilize eMAR, our electronic medication administration record for the delivery of all medications provided to our patients, which has significantly reduced errors associated when administering medications. In 2013, our hospital implemented the CPOE (Computerized Physician Order Entry) application called "Advanced Clinicals".

Our Ortho/Neuro/Trauma Step-down Unit, also known as "4-East", is a 32-bed unit, offering exceptional care for the patients we serve.

Skill Mix: RN, Unit Secretary, Certified Nursing Assistants, Student Nurses ("SNAPs")

Major Equipment Used: IV pumps, Dinamaps, Dopplers, SCD machines, Feeding pumps, Neurons, Sitter Cams

4-East hosts a variety of patient acuities/diagnoses including: Orthopedics, Neuro/Stroke, Trauma, Head Injuries, Medical, Surgical, and more.

Special Certifications Needed: BLS through the American Heart Association required; ACLS preferred (required withint 6 months of hire); National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required -- available online at www.strokeassociation.org . TNCC and PALS preferred (required within 6 months of hire).

Special Competencies/Skills Needed: Prior PCU or Step-down nursing experience desired; prior formal critical care internship program preferred; prior telemetry training/experience preferred with ability to demonstrate proficiency in rhythm interpretation; prior experience with Neuro and Trauma specialty patients.

4-East RN's respond to all Code 3's (stroke calls)

Schedules: 12-hour shifts (0700-1930, 1900-0730); Full Time is considered 36 hours per week, including every other weekend; overtime available, but not mandatory; Self-scheduling is available

Dress code: Professional scrubs (individual provides their own; RNs wear royal blue)

Lifting equipment available: Opera, Encore, Maxislides, Z-slides

Current licensure as an RN in the State of Florida.

Current certification as a BLS Healthcare Provider through the American Heart Association required; ACLS preferred.

National Institute of Health Stroke Scale certification required (available online at www.strokeassociation.org ).

Pediatrics experience preferred.

Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.

Minimum of 1 year of clinical nursing experience.

Previous charge nurse experience preferred.

Customer service abilities including effective listening skills.

Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.

Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds.
