About this job

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant shall be responsible for providing, under the direction of an occupational therapist, therapeutic interventions in a team environment consistent with the position's qualifications, professional practices and ethical standards. The COTA shall also demonstrate accountability for and contribution to program development, quality improvement, and problem solving

and productivity enhancement in a flexible team fashion.

Quality/Quantity of Work: The amount of work accomplished in a workday and the accuracy with which agiven task of known difficulty is completed (productivity).

Performs quarterly chart audits on peers and reviews personal chart audits to demonstrate knowledge of any necessary improvement in quality of work.

Demonstrates knowledge of the occurence reporting system and uses the system to report potentially unsafe issues.

Documentation: All interaction with patients is substantiated clearly in daily notes in compliance of the 24- hour policy. Occurrence times reflect when treatment occurred.

Initiative/Effectiveness: Resourceful, able to recognize and implement tasks, willingness to put forth effort in starting and following through with an activity; makes constructive suggestions.

Leadership Ability: The ability to get positive results/outcomes through teamwork. Your ability to make decisions and take the actions necessary to effectively implement these decisions. The employee's conduct reinforces the company's values and promotes Code of Conduct.

Patient Education: To educate the patient and his/her family about the patient's evaluation and treatment and document education in the multidisciplinary screen.

Patient Treatment: To follow a prescribed treatment plan with appropriate and safe therapy sessions and document interventions daily. In the event of extraordinary circumstances, complete an occurence report in Meditech.

Professional Conduct: The mutual atmosphere of cooperation that exists with others. Your

ability/willingness to tactfully and with diplomacy, deal with patients, family members, physicians and fellow staff members to achieve a common goal.

Professional Knowledge/Experience: Understanding of basic principles, techniques and practical/theoretical know-how as it relates to your position. This includes regular attendance and participation at program inservice sessions and assisting the program director in identifying the educational needs of the team. Employee demonstrates effective ability to deal with students.

Safety: Consciously promotes safety in the work environment, careful with equipment, materials and supplies. Reports unsafe conditions promptly.

Licensure/ Certification/ Registration: The therapist must hold a current Utah Certified Occupational

Therapy Assistant license from DOPL. NBCOT required. Maintains current BLS certification.

Education: The incumbent must have the minimum of a two-year associates degree program approved by the AOTA (American Occupational Therapy Association).

Experience: Acute and Rehabilitation experience; one year of work is preferred.
