POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Shift Supervisor, The Security Officer is responsible for the protection of the Facilities assets, its people and programs. The Security Officer establishes a positive Security image by being highly visible and vigilant to fire, health and safety hazards as well as Criminal threats. The Security Officer takes immediate corrective action on violations and/or deficiencies so as to minimize the potential harm. The Security Officer investigates accidents and incidents occurring to patients, visitors, and employees and files the necessary reports. The Security Officer maintains a close working relationship with hospital employees to provide a safe, secure and pleasant environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Patrols facilities and grounds maintaining surveillance; responds to calls to investigate, correct, and/or report incidents or conditions including: thefts, property damage, waste of supplies and resources, disturbances, smoke, fire, defective equipment, obstructions, safety hazards, and unlocked doors and windows. Must be knowledgeable on State and local laws and ordinances.

2. The Security Officer's Conduct demonstrates compliance with and reporting of suspected violations of relevant laws, regulations; and the VRMC Compliance Policies and Procedures; and CODE OF CONDUCT.

3. Checks individuals removing property from the premises for authorization. Delay departure `until proper authorization is found.

4. Assists in restraining patients under supervision of physician or nurse.

5. Prepares written reports as necessary, including daily activity reports, incident reports, and other reports as required.

6. Reports any and all unusual incidents and crimes occurred during assigned shift on appropriate forms no later than the end of assigned shift. Passes on to relief any and all orders pertaining to post. Immediately notifies supervisor and/or site manager if relief is not "fit for duty".

7. Promotes and maintains a safe and secure environment in all areas of the Hospital.

8. Other duties as may be assigned.

9. Becomes familiar with EOC policy and procedure manual

QUALIFICATIONS:

* High School Diploma or Equivalent

* Minimum of 1 year experience in Security, Law Enforcement or Military Law Enforcement field

* Successful completion of the TPSB Level II Training Course

* Will be given 6 months to obtain a valid pocket Card from the Private Security Bureau, in the State of Texas

* Chapter 35 Private Security Administrative Rules
