POSITION SUMMARY:

The Certified Occupational Therapist carries out the treatment plan for patients as established by the Occupational Therapist. Communicates with therapist about changes in patient status. Assists in stocking supplies and in other maintenance duties for the department.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

*1) Administers occupational therapy according to ethical standards of the American Occupational Therapy Association, Texas State licensure rules, SAH hospital policies and procedures, and other applicable regulatory requirements.

*2) Documents diagnosis of patients and takes all precautions for observing indications and contraindications.

*3) Communicates regularly with supervising Occupational Therapist to ensure that patient goals are properly assessed and the patient progresses appropriately.

*4) Consults with Occupational Therapists regarding recommendations for prescribed equipment, changes in prescribed plan and discharge planning.

*5) Documents patient's progress and response to treatment in areas of mobility, strength, balance, self care and range of motion.

*6) Directs therapy tech in assisting with treatment.

*7) Responds to acute changes in patient's physiological state and modifies techniques as indicated.

*8) Instructs family members in use of medical equipment, home exercise program, and independent living strategies.

*9) Exhibits knowledge and skill for treatment of general medical pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.

*10) Demonstrates knowledge and skill in treatment of medical patients including orthopedics, hand and upper extremity, and neurological rehabilitation.

*11) Utilizes the computerized Meditech system for Magic Office and documentation.

*12) Participates in Hospital-wide process improvement activities.

*13) Demonstrates skills necessary to provide cognitive training for appropriate patients.

*13) Maintains current O.T. Assistant license and CPR certification.

*14) Always employs universal precautions when exposed to blood and body fluids.

*15) Responds to Hospital codes and performs duties accordingly.

*16) Demonstrates understanding of HCA's and "Patients First" safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures.

*17) Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

EDUCATION:

REQUIRED: Associate degree in Occupational Therapy from a college or university accredited by the Texas State Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

REQUIRED: Licensed Occupational Therapy Assistant by the State Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners. CPR certification.

EXPERIENCE:

PREFERRED: One year experience as a certified Occupational Therapy Assistant
