Renders professional nursing care on assigned patients of all ages with covert, complex nursing care needs in accordance with nursing standards and treatment plans to provide for patients' comfort and well-being. Nurse demonstrates clinical expertise in the areas of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care, while concurrently functioning as a resource person for other nursing staff. Demonstrates professional conduct and accountability in accordance with Hospital Philosophy and Mission Statement.

Accountable for adhering to BCCH mission, including meeting behavioral expectations (compassion, caring and confidentiality), providing excellence in health care delivery, supporting dignity of all persons and responsible stewardship of resources.

Works with physicians and physician offices to ensure all pre-op paperwork is completed.

Performs pre-op appointments with patients.

Performs a comprehensive physical assessment utilizing a systematic scientific nursing process, utilizing observation, interviewing skills, collection of subjective and objective data, collaborating with and reporting findings to physician and other related disciplines.

In accordance with policy and mission statement, nurse should establish nursing care plan, utilizing other disciplines in the establishment of plan and determines appropriate nursing interventions in accordance with patient needs and nursing standards.

Evaluates patient's progress and response to nursing interventions and modifies interventions and patient plan of care as appropriate. Conveys evaluation to the appropriate disciplines or physician and offers alternative modes of treatment. Utilizes their advanced level of preparation in all aspects of patient care.

Provides mentoring, guidance, direction and delegation to other members of the nursing team (i.e., Nurses Aides, Transporters and Unit Clerks). The Nurse will coordinate the patient plan of care provided by all health care team members to ensure quality of patient care. Serves as a resource and role model to other nursing staff in area of specialty.

The Nurse will provide accurate, concise and timely documentation by recording assessments, nursing care, observations, validation of physician's orders and patient's progress.

Nurse will provide patient advocacy, instruction and teaching of patients and family members regarding treatments, surgical procedures, nursing plans and home care to facilitate successful post-discharge care and patient and/or family understanding.

Nurse will assist with staffing issues, medication administration, airway management, monitors vital signs, drain patency, discharge teaching and instructions for follow-up appointments, wound care and dressing integrity. Nurse will supervise continuity of scheduled cases and expediting pre-op add on cases. Nurse will update physician with patient status changes.

Participates in at least one community health related service or unit/hospital project/committee, participates in the presentation of departmental in-services and formulates projected goals for the clinical specialty. Demonstrates ongoing professional growth and development.

Accountable for guidelines that maintain safety for oneself, patients, visitors and co-workers outlined by OSHA, JCAHO and FDA. If employee is classified as a category I or II under OSHA regulations, employee will adhere to OSHA standards by implementing Universal Precautions. Employee will demonstrate knowledge regarding blood borne pathogens and report to Infection Control Nurse cases that pertain to communicable diseases. Employee will report all incidents that require intervention to Infection Control Nurse.

Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Current UT RN license in good standing

BLS, ACLS, PALS preferred

Pre-op and/or Same Day Surgery experience highly preferred
