Our Sushi department provides customers with a variety of delicious raw, cooked, and vegetable rolls. In this position, you’ll play a valuable role by assisting in the creation of the many great sushi products we offer, while providing incredible service to our customers. How do I make a difference?
Providing Incredible, Knowledge Based Customer Service
  • Assist customers at the counter, package prepared Sushi items as requested, and share knowledge by answering questions about products and offering suggestions
  • Ensure customers are attended to while balancing prep work and multitasking responsibilities


Ensuring High Quality Products & Ingredients
  • Follow Wegmans core recipes, production lists, and proper knife skills to prep ingredients and ensure a quality and consistent outcome
  • Follow Wegmans Guiding Principles and department job aides to prep and ensure ingredients are ready to be used to avoid setbacks or delays
  • Perform opening and closing procedures, leaving the department ready for tasks to take place efficiently the next morning
  • Maintain appearance of Sushi case by refilling products, setting up supplies, and ensuring station is well-merchandised and signs are properly displayed
  • Make and test rice by utilizing PH testing materials to ensure rice meets Wegmans specifications
  • Properly handle products, use equipment, keep accurate logs and follow sanitation practices in accordance with food and human safety guidelines and Simplification 5S procedures

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Experience working in a retail/food service setting, preferably as a Sushi cook
  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Culinary Arts


Work Environment
  • Work involves continuous interaction with customers and co-workers in a fast-paced environment
  • Typical motions include repetitive hand and are movements, bending and reaching
  • Responsible for moving and lifting 5-20 pounds with a maximum weight lifted of 50 pounds rarely
  • Will spend the majority of time on his or her feet and stand or walk without a break for up to 4 hours
  • May be exposed to various allergens and work environments, including temperature changes

Days/Hours Requirement: Preferred availability for this position is 6am-9pm, including weekends.
