POSITION GOAL:

The Operating Room Staff Nurse is a registered nurse who is responsible to provide safe effective nursing care

to all surgery patients utilizing the nursing process. The registered nurse also is responsible for the direction and supervision of assigned personnel delivering patient care while in the operating room.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education:

1. Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.

Experience:

1. Two (2) or more years experience as an Operating Room Staff Nurse preferred.

Other Qualifications

1. Current Florida Nursing License.

2. Participation in Continuing Education.

2. Knowledge of AORN standards and practice required.

3. Current CNOR certification preferred.

4. Assessment, communication, motivational, and organizational skills.

5. Current CPR certification.

6. PALS & ACLS certification required or obtain within 6 months.

7. Self directed and independent achiever.

CAREER PATH

1. Potential for promotion to Charge Nurse, Nursing Administrative Supervisor or Unit Director,

Clinical Nurse Specialty; with additional training RNFA and CRNA.

Essential Duties:

The registered professional nurse is responsible for the direct and indirect total nursing care of his/her assigned patients. He/She is also responsible for the supervision of assigned personnel. The position requires intimate knowledge of both department and hospital policies and procedures relevant to the delivery of nursing care. Interpretive skills, frequent interactive and consultative associations, along with management and supervisory skills are inherent in the position. The ability to retrieve, communicate, or otherwise present information in a written, auditory, or visual fashion is essential. The primary method to express or exchange ideas is through the spoken word. Written, telephone, and manual dexterity skills are required for the position.

The Operating Room Staff Nurse is responsible for the peri-operative care of the surgical patient based on the nursing process. His/her responsibility begins with the preoperative assessment and continues until

the post-operative assessment and report is given to the appropriate person. The OR Staff Nurse performs all the duties and functions of an operating room Circulating Nurse and Scrub Nurse and has a working knowledge of aseptic technique. He/she is able to provide the nursing care needs of patients receiving anesthesia and provide support to anesthesia personnel as needed.
