The ED Nurse Technician is responsible for direct patient care which includes, but is not limited to: meeting the patient's personal care, hygiene, nutritional, comfort and mobility needs. The nurse technician may take vital signs, obtain patient weights, and transport patients. The nurse technician has demonstrated competency in sterile technique, foley catheterization, documentation and basic assessment skills, IV starts, venipuncture, NG Tubes and obtaining 12-lead EKG's. Also accepts additional tasks assigned.

Performs tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues, and may be exposed to patients with infectious or communicable diseases.

Patient population served: Modifies and delivers care that is specific to age, growth, and level of development of patients including the adolescent, younger adult, older adult through geriatrics patients. The population may include those with cardiovascular, renal, pulmonary, gastrointestinal diseases, those undergoing general surgery and those requiring telemetry monitoring.

Position Requirements:

A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Certified Nursing Assistant in South Carolina is preferred. American Heart Association BLS -- Healthcare provider, CPI within 90 days of hire and annually.

B. Education : Currently enrolled in an approved school of nursing program. Has completed basic nursing skills courses (Fundamentals of Nursing).

C. Experience: Patient care experience preferred. Must show proficiency in performing nursing assistant duties. Knowledge of medical terminology desirable. Performs in accordance with delineated job responsibilities and satisfactorily completes a yearly evaluation based on these responsibilities. Must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively meet the needs of the patient/internal & external customer

D. Special qualifications: Must have the ability to effectively read, write and speak fluent English. Effective communication skills; both orally and written. Computer skills required. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and to work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care.
