General Purpose of the Job:

Specimen Processor II resolves problem specimens and/or requisitions in a timely manner to ensure specimen integrity of samples prior to laboratory analysis and testing. Assist laboratory teammates with delegated tasks as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs the duties and responsibilities of Specimen Processor I as assigned Prepares excess, unknown or problem specimen samples for storage, resolves and documents problem specimens in LIS according to Accessioning policies and procedures Documents specimen quality issues and take appropriate action to ensure proper handling and disposition of all test requests as well as accept/reject specimens based on laboratory standard policies and procedures Assists the supervisor or manager with the following: Updating oncoming staff of the status of work activities and pending work ensuring seamless transition between shifts to ensure team goal(s) for meeting Turn Around Time (TAT) Assisting in communication with the departments for workflow needs (via walkie-talkies) on heavy volume days Training co-workers and performs competency assessments Leading the workflow with their teammates under the direction from a supervisor and/or manager Assisting in review of SOPs for areas of duties or responsibilities as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) Assisting with process improvements in areas of responsibility Maintains an active role in the laboratory quality improvement program, including performance and evaluation of key laboratory outcome indicators; Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned include but not limited to: Notifying supervisor and/or technical section of potential or existing concerns Following the established policies and procedures to meet regulatory and accrediting agency's requirements Practicing infection control and safety practices as well as maintain a clean and organized work area

Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma from an accredited organization or equivalent required Medical terminology training or previous clinical training required Specialty, on the job clinical lab training, laboratory accessioning or data entry required Intermediate computer skills and proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and Outlook required
