Job Summary The Center for Human Growth and Development (CHGD) is internationally known for its leadership in integrating biological, behavioral, and cultural aspects of development. CHGD encourages and facilitates activities that link disciplinary departments, interdisciplinary programs and understanding of the complexity and richness of human development. We currently have 33 faculty members, including members who also hold tenure appointments in one of the university's schools or colleges.

We seek a highly responsible, self-motivated, detail-oriented Executive Secretary to join the center's administrative support team. The successful candidate with provide high quality administrative support for the center's Director and outstanding customer service and general administrative assistance to faculty and staff. The Executive Secretary takes direction from multiple persons while working autonomously and prioritizing a diverse workload. The position requires someone who responds to situations with tact and diplomacy, maintains confidentiality, exercises appropriate judgment, and communicates effectively both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities* Provide administrative support to the center's Director including, but not limited to: managing the director's calendar; preparing the director for meetings and appointments; initiating original correspondence for the Director that requires interpretation of policies regarding matters of sensitive or confidential nature; and supporting the Director's involvement in campus committees as well as state, national and international meetings. Provide support for the Director's research program including sponsored research proposals, reports, and supporting documentation (i.e. biosketches). This position also supports the center's Associate Director.

Provide logistical support, including travel arrangement and itineraries for the Director, CHGD faculty members and visitors to the center. Coordinate faculty meetings, the center's seminar series and ad hoc events and symposia including travel and hosting. Prepare and distribute meeting minutes for various center committees. Coordinate the annual faculty promotion and evaluation and new faculty appointment processes. Maintain files, correspondence and documentation in a secure and confidential manner.

Support clerical and administrative needs of center and its faculty including processing financial transactions; assisting with expense reports; answering questions regarding purchasing, hosting and travel and expense polices; and supporting on-campus and off-campus meetings. Answer telephones. Receive, sort and distribute mail. Schedule meeting rooms. Design brochures and promotional materials. Maintain website content.

Required Qualifications* Associate's degree and two to four years of progressively responsible work experience. Ability to exercise independent judgment and employ basic reasoning skills. Ability to work effectively and accurately under deadline pressure. Attention to detail and superior organizational skills. Strong interpersonal, speaking, listening and writing skills. Familiarity with computer software packages including word processing, spreadsheets, database management and desktop publishing programs.

Desired Qualifications* Bachelor's degree and five to seven years of progressively responsible work experience preferred. Experience with grant proposal preparation and interpreting federal and non-federal sponsor guidelines to assure successful submission of grants. Advanced proficiency with MS Office, desktop publishing software, EndNote, website content management systems, social media platforms, Concur Travel and Expense system, and M-Pathways Financials and Human Resources systems. Familiarity with University of Michigan policies and procedures.
