Job Description

The GM is responsible for attracting, hiring, training and developing all levels of Brand Ambassadors (leaders and associates).The GM leads their team to achieve contribution goals, sales goals, customer service targets, and operating and human resources objectives through motivation, inspiration and accountability. The GM is responsible for implementing the individual store strategy in a manner consistent with Gap Inc.’s established values and behaviors. The GM is responsible for professional representation of our brand within their market, understanding our competitors as well as driving excellent tenant and community relationships.

As a member of the leadership team, the General Manager will lead Brand Ambassadors to model the service model at all times including when they work in the fitting rooms, sales floor, cash wrap and stockroom. The GM is responsible for ensuring teams execute operational excellence by engaging customers, operating with a customer first mindset and celebrating individual and team achievements.
  • Holds store team and self accountable to all Gap Inc. standards of performance.
  • Drives Brand Ambassador productivity to achieve store financial, revenue and expense targets.
  • Promotes a high-quality store experience for the external and internal customer
  • Recognizes escalated associate and customer situations and partners with District Manager for resolution.
  • Consistently monitors and adjusts sales forecasts to ensure labor is utilized to optimize traffic flow and sales generation.
  • Provides feedback to District Manager on success of brand initiatives, consumer feedback and in-store trends and market insights to drive growth.
  • Maintains the highest level of all brand standards and processes.
  • Leads implementation of product placement, marketing and promotional strategies as established by the brand
  • Effectively manages Brand Ambassadors throughout the employee lifecycle.
  • Promotes team and individual performance through consistent coaching and feedback.
  • Partners with District Manager to create development plans that support performance needs and career growth for self and direct reports.
  • Builds effective relationships with cross-divisional and store-center partners.
  • Promotes store involvement in Community in Action programs.
  • Leads efforts to reduce in-store shrink activity through education, awareness and compliance.
  • Ensures compliance to all Federal, Provincial, State, and Gap Inc. employment requirements.


Qualification

  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and lead teams to deliver results
  • Demonstrated ability to assess and develop talent
  • Proven performance management skills
  • Established time management skills and effective planning and prioritizing skills
  • Excellent communication skills and proven ability to effectively communicate with all levels of leaders in the organization
  • 3-5 years of retail management experience
  • 4 year college degree or equivalent preferred
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs
  • Maneuver effectively around sales floor, stock room and office
  • Travel between stores and outside the state, if necessary
  • Open availability to meet the needs of the business, including evening and weekend shifts
