The purpose of the Mechanic B position is to utilize the mechanical expertise of the candidate to support the needs of the branch in a professional, safe and timely manner. An individual in this position will work to keep all equipment in peak running condition through an effective preventative maintenance program along with a detailed repair schedule. This candidate is an experienced technician in general and assumes a mentoring role of product knowledge. He/she performs at a high level standard of quality within the branch. He/she has mastered the operating standards of the facility, the region and corporation.

Main responsibilities:

Follow a consistent and regular schedule to perform various types of maintenance on heavy equipment, construction equipment and various pieces of machinery Conduct oil changes, lubrication of equipment, tire replacements, hose repairs, battery replacements and assorted services Perform assorted repairs on equipment using hand tools, machine tools and measuring instruments Recondition and replace assorted parts of the heavy equipment Diagnoses problem areas for any significant wear or tear on the equipment Disassembles engines and reassembles after a thorough examination Maintain work area in a clean and organized manner Assist mechanics with other duties Assist with general service and maintenance record keeping Perform additional duties as assigned

Mandatory Requirements:

Educational Background:

High school diploma and/or GED Professional Experience:

Valid driver's license and a clean driving record 2 to 3 years of experience repairing, maintaining and operating construction and heavy equipment, generators, air compressors and pumps Knowledge:

Must have detailed knowledge and previous work experience working on internal combustion engines (gas and diesel), DC electrical systems, propane systems, hydraulics, track equipment and various construction equipment Has a basic understanding of welding techniques Skills:

Understands the importance of time management, standards of operating procedures, owner's manuals and product/warning labels Own a general mechanic's tool set, capable of supporting a heavy equipment fleet, and be willing to expand their own personal tool collection Ability to operate large, heavy machinery Ability to lift 50+ pounds Customer service skills Competencies:

Team oriented General maintenance abilities Strong organizational skills Must exhibit a high level of safety consciousness and a clear understanding of equipment safety Good communication Sense of urgency Stress management
