In the role of a Seafood Manager, you’ll run the Seafood department and will work with team members to develop their skills and passions. Essential Responsibilities:

  • Performing tasks essential to the proper functioning of the department including ordering with Simplification practices in mind, hiring & staffing, training & development, scheduling and managing payroll
  • Leading employees by example to provide incredible customer service by proactively approaching customers; answering questions about products; filleting, weighing and packaging seafood for customers
  • Delegating tasks to team members and empowering them to take on new challenges, being certain to provide timely feedback and annual performance reviews that focus on their growth and professional development
  • Maintaining the overall appearance of the department, merchandising fresh seafood cases following company standards while showcasing quality and Best of Season products and driving sales, monitoring appearance and quality throughout the day to ensure products meet Wegmans standards at all times
  • Training team members on the proper ways to cut a variety of fish to produce the correct yield and eliminate waste from incorrect cutting
  • Understanding the highly perishable nature of Seafood and reacting quickly to inventory by working with Prepared Foods department and Seafood manager to utilize waste and reduce the amount of shrink in the department
  • Using passion and knowledge of products to educate both team members and customers, ensuring they have the tools needed to make, or help make, great meals easy
  • Oversee orders that are delivered, being sure to check the quality of the product as it comes in and taking appropriate steps with vendors when quality expectations are not met
  • Maintaining open lines of communication with team members and Seafood Manager to ensure smooth department operations
  • Educating and ensuring team members are properly handling products, using equipment and keeping accurate logs in accordance with food safety and safety guidelines

 Requirements

  • Customer service experience, preferably in a food service, grocery or retail setting
  • Actively communicate the company vision and values to all and ensure work is completed in line with the organization's priorities and goals (Who We Are and What We Do)
  • Use data analysis, wisdom, experience, judgment, and past actions as well as input from other sources for decision making, always considering the impact on customers, sales and contribution (profit)
  • Use performance and development tools to manage and develop others, working with employees to set and achieve individual and department goals
  • Use scheduling tools, software, past payroll results and sales projections to ensure people are scheduled at times to meet business needs
  • Exhibit proper planning and staffing techniques which include managing time and resources; completing sales and staffing forecasts based on previous trends; proactively recruiting and selecting the best people to meet Wegmans goals
  • Work towards continuous improvement to encourage change; find ways to increase profitability and productivity; and improve processes, products & customer service in the department(s)
  • Control inventory levels and expenses such as payroll and shrink to impact bottom-line contribution (profit) for the department
  • Practice proper ordering techniques to complete orders by deadlines and participate in inventory process to ensure items are available to support merchandising programs and product promotions
  • Exhibit category merchandising skills by planning and executing Plan-O-Grams and seasonal programs based on a common theme to maximize sales opportunities, collaborating with other departments to cross-merchandise displays
  • Assist with meal preparation and planning by providing customers with proper serving guidelines and recommending correct cooking techniques, helping to make great meals easy
