REQUIREMENTS

Must have experience working with children in a dental environment. Must be licensed as a Dental Hygienist in the State of Florida. Must have experience performing prophylaxis, scaling and root planing procedures and applying Fluoride to patients. Must have experience placing dental sealants. Must be willing to treat HIV+/Hep C+ clients observing universal precautions and the appropriate OSHA/CHD guidelines. Certification to administer local anesthetic by injection preferred. Must have a valid driver's license.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This is a professional position requiring a team approach in developing and implementing a dental medical home program in Alachua County. This is work: performing under the direct, indirect, and/or general supervision of the attending dentist and providing dental hygiene and preventive services. Promoting and evaluating community based dental preventive and health education programs; providing treatments as well as dental screenings; and performs record review and prepares reports as needed. The program will be designed to provide treatment and improve self-management and dental care skills to Alachua County Residents.

Assists the attending dentist in all expanded functions as permitted by the Florida Board of Dentistry. Performs dental prophylaxis, scaling and root planning procedures. Performs periodontal charting. Exposes dental radiographs. Provides and demonstrates oral hygiene instructions. Communicates home care and treatment needs to patients and parents of minors. Applies dental sealants in the clinic. Re-cements provisional crowns. Remove sutures. Cleans and disinfect operatory's. Sterilizes dental instruments. Documents client encounters in client records and charts dental restorations and treatment needs.

Upholds quality infection control standards through the sterilization or disinfecting of all operatory and laboratory equipment, instruments and supplies. Responsible for ensuring that all the patient care is provided in and aseptic environment. Handles all bio-hazardous waste and sharp objects according to Federal and state OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) guidelines. Periodically, updates infection control knowledge through continuing education seminars and dental journals.

Maintains accurate charts and records by documenting treatment rendered, referrals, and/or prescriptions given to a patient, Radiographs, and/or diagnostic casts made, readings produced, in person and/or phone conversations with patient and billing or receipt copies made.

Maintains and manages a hygiene recall appointment system according to the FDOH-Alachua Dental Program Policy and procedure.

Updates the dental Program Procedure manual, the Dental material Safety Sheet log, the Dental hazardous materials Procedure Handbook and Dental Program Equipment Manuals as required by Federal, State, and FDOH-Alachua regulations.

Attends training and seminars as they become available to enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities as it relates to duties and responsibilities.

Performs other related duties as requested/required.

Responsible for securing the designated information sets for the purposes of protecting confidentiality, data integrity, and appropriate access for all information, both confidential and public record, which is stored in hard copy and electronic forms.

Incumbent may be required to work during or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency operation functions of the incumbent include but are not limited to special needs shelters, Red Cross Shelters, or other emergency functions.
