I. BASIC FUNCTION:

The physical therapist assistant is responsible for directing modifying and administering the physical therapy modalities of treatment as supervised by the staff physical therapist. Administers treatments and physical agents as directed by the staff physical therapist, after the physical therapist has determined, following evaluation of the patient, the patient's needs, goals and plan of care. The physical therapist assistant will delegate responsibilities and supervise supportive personnel, to assist in administrative tasks, and to participate in educational and orientation programs.

Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) will follow plan of care established by licensed Physical Therapist, advancing the patient toward the measurable and attainable goals set forth upon initial evaluation.

PTA will perform proper and standard objective measures to attain objective data to determine a patients functional status or debility and progression towards goals. These include but are not limited to MMT, ROM, goniometry, circumferential measurements, standardized tests etc.

PTA will use approved progress note format for setting and updating plan of care and goals in conjunction with PT, as necessary and as patient progress warrants.

Follows hospital infection control policy during all treatment interventions.

Maintains interdepartmental communication to ensure quality and continuity of care of all patients.

Maintains and pursues Physician communication when a change in patient plan or care is warranted.

Completes PTA interventions in accordance with patients' abilities and understanding levels to progress towards goals as established in POC.

Is responsible for patient and family education of disease process and home exercise program to further and sustain therapy gains.

Responsible for attending all mandatory department staff meetings if scheduled to work the day of the meeting. If not working the day of the meeting the PTA is responsible for review of information covered and discussing questions/concerns with Department Director.

Is responsible to carry out and complete projects as given by Director of Rehabilitation for the good of the department and PCMC. Performs educational training for patients and employees of various topics as they relate to the rehabilitation field and as assigned by the Rehabilitation Director

I. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Education : Minimum of an Associate's Degree from a Physical Therapy Assistant Program (APTA). Bachelors Degree preferred.

Experience : Successful completion of a Physical Therapy Assistant program including supervised clinical internships in acute-care facilities.

Licensure,

Certification, and/or

Registration: Physical Therapy Assistant Licensure in the State of Florida, Current CPR certification.

Other Minimum

Qualifications: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Good working knowledge of computer and keyboarding. Good self motivation and ability to set priorities, performs well in stress and emergency situations, ensures accuracy & completeness of work performed, follows established procedures performing job functions.
